09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1960: Well, I'm new to variant play, so we shall see how this goes. Be gentle :)
09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1961: Yes, I will be as gentle as possible. Well, I lie. I will place some commentary in here to help you next time.
09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1961: In the opening move, you did the most common moves, except for the Albania move is debatable. Usually we either both go after Greece, one of us does and the other gets their fleet out into Ionian or Eastern Med, or we both go to the ocean and probably each secure an extra build. I note these moves, but do not have an opinion on the best move.
09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1961: On the next move, I have done the Norwegian Sea gambit. You chose to assume I would not go to Leningrad and grab both Sweden and East Germany, but I did go to Leningrad and you lost a build as a result. A safer move is to cut back East Germany on Leningrad and go for Sweden, but then if I didn't go for Leningrad, I can grab East Germany and leave you in your home supply center. The second keeps us even in supply centers, but gives me better board position. Really, you have to guess, which is what will happen a lot here.
09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1961: If this is not helpful, I can just be quiet.
09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1961: I've been looking at the maps of all the previously played games in this variant, particularly the one where YOU were a participant... I will see how I do :)
09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1961: Oh, I am intrigued.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1961: Wow, there were some interesting moves there. I will comment in a turn or two as I do not want to reveal my thoughts.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1961: I have been known to overthink things, so this could be worthwhile or over very quickly.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1961: Apparently I've also been known to underthink things :)
09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1962: In Spring 1961, you went from Sweden to Denmark which I hadn't really anticipated. Most people reclaim Leningrad as I had no way to stop you. I was interested in how that might play out. I pushed the subject by cutting in on Sweden. I usually go for the easy supply center and require you to cut back on it (until, well, I don't.) I expected that cut back and a hold of Eastern Germany or even an attack on Ukraine from Moscow. The rest was pretty standard. I am known to give up Indonesia in the short term. I liked how the Ionian Sea move ended with you having an extra build without losing Albania. I would have probably moved Greece to Yugoslavia as Albania was not under direct attack.
09 Jan 16 UTC Spring, 1962: I had to look up that Indonsia could reach Australia via land. Interesting play.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1962: Excellent move. Well played.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1962: I had a longshot that you wouldn't be aware of that nuance and wouldn't put a build in Oz, not seeing an immediate threat. But it was a reach. Also really feeling oddly bottlenecked in the West Indies.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1962: The first 50/50 I have to do happened that last turn, or so I thought. I expected that Caribbean Sea was going to go to Florida or West Atlantic and I was ready to defend. However, you went Venezuela. If I had gone for Florida, I would be screwed now. Good move. Also, you probably needed one more unit in the Japan/Vladivostok area. I assumed this would be South China Sea cutting back. That may cost you a center.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1962: Honestly, look at my game in progress. It is a pain in the but to maintain control of all those Russian supply centers with so few units.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1962: I mean those in East Asia. They are all two apart and are prey to 50/50 decisions. It kinda sucks.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1962: Well, I mis-stepped in a couple key places at a very bad time. This one will be over, but I will likely try this variant again (and again and again)
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1962: Yeah, I look forward to future rematches. You did indeed made some mis-steps this turn.
09 Jan 16 UTC Autumn, 1963: At this point, I'm just moving for the point of evaluating the flow of the map
