18 Aug 16 UTC [Byzantinum]:I have joined a few turns before end and I was pretty disappointed by incapability of some players to try resist the most powerful country. Hey guys, while this is WTA game and there is a country who needs only couple SCs for win, you can't attack nations who fight that big country. Regardless this is gunboat you have to don't play only on your own, especially in WTA.
18 Aug 16 UTC [Wagadu]:in the final season, I based my moves on conceding... I wanted this over with. I came in at nearly the beginning after original Wagadu CDed... and things started really well. But when I was facing a multi day internet-less time for travel and put in an Extend vote, something that discouraged me a lot happened. A lot of countries voted in support, but my immediate neighbors directed an all out assault, expecting I would be NMRing. Without a global chat capacity, no ability to lobby for the Extend made the Extend vote a tip-off of upcoming weakness.

When I was back with internet, I fought back against those two countries, and thanks to both of them NMRing and then one eventually CDing, I ended up more or less where I'd started, but in the meantime, everyone else (with prospects) had grown substantially.

And then I was faced with the return leg of the same travel I'd faced before. Not Extend vote this time, because I feared a similar exploitation. It that move cycle, I was desperately trying to poach Byz SCs, as that nation was in CD and if could just get builds, I could fortify and push back against the Indians. But again a crucial NMRs while stuck on a train crossing Russia meant I never moved into the Mediterranean while there was no opposition (when I finally did get there, Indian and French boats were already in the water, and by that time, New Byzantium was issuing support orders to keep my centers from falling to India, so I wasn't willing to take any of his... France was, though, so... For several seasons, I'd been supporting French possible moves toward India along the west African coast in the hopes that the French would 'get it' and swing around me to head against the Indians, but instead, the French continued to chew me up from behind. ). I was able to order retreats from the Moscow airport's WiFi cloud, so avoided CD, but then a missed Build phase on a flight from Moscow to New York, which meant the one gain I'd managed to make couldn't be defensively built and instead, what units I did have had to risk moving rather than support/holding to prevent further losses. So in the end, I looked at how many centers the Indians needed and issued orders that would assure my survival while likely ending the game, roughly 45 days after joining it.

Only thing I can think is that France was under the impression that between CDed Byz and intermittently NMRing Wagadu, he could gain +20ish SCs before India got +5 and the win? So the two nations with the greatest fronts with India were both being consumed from the other side while trying to resist.
18 Aug 16 UTC [Turan]:Congrats India. You had some luck but also played e great game yourself.

I havent been paying attention after my untimely destruction, but Diplomacy is indeed a game of all players against the strongest one :)
