10 Aug 17 UTC | Autumn, 1960: Just added you to the players map :) |
10 Aug 17 UTC | Autumn, 1960: Awesome, thanks! |
22 Aug 17 UTC | Autumn, 1961: Huh, I can't build in India. Is that a rule? |
22 Aug 17 UTC | Autumn, 1961: Yup, just the original SCs are up for builds. |
22 Aug 17 UTC | Autumn, 1961: Ah, makes sense. I'm too used to build anywhere :D |
12 Sep 17 UTC | I should be able to get orders in more frequently over the next few days if you want to finish this up :) |
12 Sep 17 UTC | Don't think that'll be necessary, I'll concede this :) No way to get to a draw anymore. For future reference, I'm fine either way. I'll be somewhat busy as I'm back to school now but I can handle 36 hour deadlines if you prefer those. I'll let you choose as you get to choose the next map as well. |
12 Sep 17 UTC | GameMaster: NATO voted for a Concede. If everyone (but one) votes Concede the game will end and the player _not_ voting Conceede will get all the points. Everybody else will get a defeat. |
12 Sep 17 UTC | Good game! I'm going to put it on FvA and 36h - hope that's alright. I have a tendency to leave it until the last few hours when it's on 3 day phases whether I'm busy or not, so 36h will probably go a lot more quickly. |
12 Sep 17 UTC | Ahh no, I didn't realize this counts as a defeat, now I unnecessarily hurt my stats ;( Anyway, your choice next. Well done, maybe someday I'll learn how to play NATO. Tried to look at some games by highly rated players but it was a bit too late at that point. I think it's at least crucial to get those armies convoyed out of North America as they're extremely useless just sitting there. |

12 Sep 17 UTC | Yup, I accept those terms. I can set them up as I'm already posting on the forum if that's cool. |
12 Sep 17 UTC | Too late ;) |
12 Sep 17 UTC | I haven't played Cold War before (well, I played it once and conceded very early), so I don't know much of the strategy behind it. However, it felt to me like you can never have the momentum to convoy those armies out of NA unless you're already winning, otherwise it means moving a fleet away from an area where it's badly needed. It feels to me like NATO gets a choice very early on between a more luck-based game (going to Norwegian) or a more skill-based one (going to North Sea). If NATO takes Leningrad in the first year I'm fairly certain they automatically win - a 2 unit swing like that is huge. I think that NATO is at a disadvantage in a skill-based game so imo it's always better to open to Norwegian and play the guessing game. |
12 Sep 17 UTC | Which is interesting because NATO is a bit ahead in the statistics (although the stats look extremely balanced which is why I got interested in this variant in the first place). And the Leningrad gamble is a bit symmetric to USSR moving to Greece and gambling about Istanbul. In the first game I played I moved to Norwegian and proceeded to convoying Alaska into Siberia in the second year which almost got me the upper hand. Some players also seem to prefer building in NY after the first year and convoying to Brazil and attacking Panama from the South. But yeah, extremely difficult to wrap your head around a multi-front war. So maybe a little FvA will be a good change of pace :) |
