07 Mar 12 UTC | Spring, 1901: (fasces349): Ok so just a few notes about the games. I think last game I might have focused to much power on the Med and not enough in Russia or Germany. I view this as being 3 fronts: Russia, Germany and the Med. Who has the advantages on each front: Mediterranean: In every game we have played, England got to Tunis first, which is a signifcant advantage because of its location, its hard to take once lost. Turkey could get there first, however that would require their fleet being in Aegean rather then Bulgaria at the end of 1901. The question is would the loss of a build in the opening phase, which would put them a unit down for most of the game, be worth keeping England out of Tunis? It might be less fatal then it sounds, given that England not taking Tunis might cost them a build in a later phase. I think one of these 2 games Turkey should attempt this (I'd rather you be Turkey in that game, but I am happy to do so). To really test this, I think that England should use the same openings in both games, with Turkey playing differently in both to really test the effectiveness of Turkish strategies. I think the Med cost me the game as Turkey, as despite having 5 fleets to your 2, you were still able to hold the line as my units ended up clogging up the med and limiting my options, being more of a burden then a help. Next is Russia: I totally ignored Russia in both games, since based on the way it is set up, in the long run St Petes will always end up English and Moscow Turkish. However, your army's in St Petes and Finland were quite a hassle in my England game last time, so one thing we should investigate is the importance of St Petes. We could do this by either having England open with St Petes in both, or have England focus on Germany early game like I did and let Turkey into St Petes to see how easy it is for England to retake it. I'll talk about Germany later. I have to write a test, which started 12 minutes ago. In any case thoughts about these fronts? |
07 Mar 12 UTC | Spring, 1901: I'm getting the sense that the loss of a unit is going to be really costly. I'm either conceding a fleet in the Black Sea from S02 onward (which is enormous for deploying armies to the front) or I'm conceding my all-too-vital second forward army, which will probably lead to relatively disastrous consequences in Germany later. You're right re: St. Petersburg. Unless England gets turned back rather dramatically in the Mediterranean, England takes Tunisia early in exchange for temporarily ceding St. Petersburg, then takes it back after locking all the other centers up. |
07 Mar 12 UTC | Spring, 1901: my bad about forgetting to select a country for this game. I'll switch it up |
