13 May 12 UTC Spring, 1860: Hi Randy, could not resist taking you on :-)
13 May 12 UTC Spring, 1860: You bastard!!!! And here I thought that I was going to get a good easy win...
13 May 12 UTC Spring, 1860: I'd intended to make this something of a fast game, but I'll be gone for most of the day. Sorry, I'll have more time for it tomorrow
13 May 12 UTC Spring, 1860: I am travelling, so no problem
14 May 12 UTC Spring, 1861: Having looked at the map I do believe that the Confederacy should have a slight advantage. What's your opinion?
14 May 12 UTC Spring, 1861: I'm torn on this map. It's difficult to say. I like the idea of this variant, but I'm not sure that the map is playable. I actually set this up for some other guy to play, but he created a game at the same time,a nd you picked this one up before I could quit it
14 May 12 UTC Spring, 1861: Aha... We'll see how this pans out. The fleet Ohio was me testing how the river/lake rules work, but in the short run it should not be to disadvantageous, but in the long run probably is, as most areas, where the inland fleet makes any sense what so ever, are just as easily reached with an army.
In my opinion the glut of centers constituting latin America should always tip the scales in the Confederacys favor. Currenlty I am too tired to finish my moves, so the turn won't proceed until tomorrow in about 10-12 hours from now.
14 May 12 UTC Spring, 1861: If you are looking for an interesting experience try out Germany 1648. Should be played by good players to really be a challenge--the "horse" units make for some challenging tactical twists--, but average players are good for testing it out.
14 May 12 UTC Spring, 1861: yeah yeah, well mark your orders final, andlet's get this out of the way... I'll have a look at the 1648 game
15 May 12 UTC Spring, 1862: I am pretty much toast. I had assumed that I was to able to build in any controlled center I owned and move accodringly. Bad assumption...
15 May 12 UTC Spring, 1862: Yeah, that is a huge liability. The variant should at least allow builds in the starting blue/gray centers once captured.
16 May 12 UTC Autumn, 1862: You will win this now.
16 May 12 UTC Spring, 1863: It's too bad that the home centers do not have more space between them or that builds are not allowed in the west
17 May 12 UTC Autumn, 1863: Sergio! Where are you mate?
17 May 12 UTC Autumn, 1863: Soirry extremely busy day, and I had no time to check the internet.
17 May 12 UTC Autumn, 1863: OK I have to concede this to you. Would you like a rematch with a slightly longer deadline? Same powers.
17 May 12 UTC Spring, 1864: I actually started this game hoping that it would go live. Another player was supposed to pick it up, and asked me to play the reverse powers. But then he didn't pick it up, and you did. He's also not playing it live. I'm trying not to get into anything with long deadlines at the moment. but I'll give you a rematch one day.
17 May 12 UTC Autumn, 1864: Unions main problem is that all centers are strung out along the coast. And that Ohio is two provinces away. The confederacy OTOH has the advantage of having all centers nicely within each others reach.
Starting with a fleet in Ohio is not a good idea as it moves just as an army. I had hoped that the rivers would be more like a sea area. E.g Lake Eire and Lawrence river would be able to reach all adjoining land centers and ditto for the Missouri and Mississippi etc. It was all not very clear how the rivers and inland fleets would move.
17 May 12 UTC Autumn, 1864: My thinking on this variant is that Ohio is the most important center. The Union must keep this center because not only is it the westernmost build site, but it's the doorway to Michigan and Western Pennsylvania.

In the other game I played the Confederate player sent a fleet up the rivers and it got into the Great Lakes agaisnt me, where it's is a major pain in the ass.

My feeling is that this variant could be a lot of fun, but all the intitial centers are too close to each other and the game is decided after only a few moves.
17 May 12 UTC Spring, 1865: Not only keep Ohio but also take control of WV is necessary to build a good defensive, but also to take control of Cape May to be able to exit NYC and NJ to be able to build in those.
