Necromancer: a Lord of the Rings variant
This is a pretty interesting variant, where many of the factions have special powers. Anybody interested in playing? We have two players and a GM, need 6 more.

I want to play a game
There are lots here whom I've enjoyed playing with (and hopefully vice versa). Anyone - old or new - up for a game? I don't have any preferences except WTA and 36 hr phases.

Scottish Independence - An historic act of bravery or madness?
So this time tomorrow we may have a new (old) country on that funny little island that sits of the coast of Europe. I'm interested to hear from people about what they think about this, and as it is yet to happen, what way you think they might vote...

The Lost Art of Reading Orders (feature request)
Because you need to click on a link to see the orders, I feel like players on this and other sites are not paying as close attention to the orders being issued. I know they're being shown graphically, but that can be ambiguous or hard to notice; reading the orders makes you notice things you might not have, like why something is failing or what another country is trying to do, or tell you (for gunboat games).

I'd suggest placing the latest set of orders just below the map.

This from the end of a game that he won as France.

Didn't we all get banned for our issues with the mods handling of free speech issues?

Now you're the one hoping moderators will step in and rule against free speech...
I never supported hate speech nor did Kestas. Homophobia comments like maple makes are hate speech. But what disappoints me is that I heard he was better behaved over here. Obviously I heard wrong.

England, Russia, Germany and Italy all missed phases that game mapleleaf, you didn't beat Draugnar because you outsmarted him, you beat him because Draug was unfortunate enough to have allies miss phases.

Judge for yourselves, people. I love TROUNCING sore losers.
I don't care about the boasting, it's the choice of name callings. Had he said " I guess I can handle the truth" I would have laughed along with him.
I made mistakes (should have moved to Rum not Bid the year before, should have let Russia have one of my SCs a few years earlier...)

These bums are too stupid to figure out that Germany was my ALLY. His early Autumn 1901 NMR messed me up. I did not benefit from it. Germany NMRed again in Autumn 1906 and I made him pay dearly for it but he was toast anyway. Italy's NMR came in the final term and made no difference whatsoever. Why faeces mentioned this is beyond me. Poor England, God bless her, was toast as soon as Germany and I decided on a Sea Lion, which was right away. England's NMR did not matter. Russia's NMR occurred when Russia was my ALLY in Spring 1902. It messed me up like Germany's did. We were all focused on eliminating England early. England hung around WAY too long because of those NMRS. England's NMR came in Autumn 1904 when she was down to two units, with my ALLY, Germany, and I all over her. It made no difference whatsoever. This idiotic assertion that I benefited from these NMRS is nothing more than poor sportsmanship.

@Maple: We conceded BECAUSE of my NMR, had I not NMRed, you wouldn't have gotten into Tuscany, and we would have still had a fair (albeit small) chance to set up a stalemate.

Russia's NMR helped you because had he not NMRed Austria would have had 4-5 sc rather than 7 at the end of 1902. That means Austria would have died earlier and we would have had more time to set up a stalemate line.

Germany's NMR helped you in the long run, it meant he was far weaker when you did eventually stab him.

Had there been no NMRs it would have been a very different game, won that you would have found much harder.

Mapleleaf you stats look good (top 3%, 759 D), but your low reliability (R76) makes it improbable that we meet.
Actually, the stats that matter look horrible for maple. His win/draw combined is less than 30%. The only reason he has 759 D is that was a 700 point WTA game. And that top 3% is points driven so is worthless.

Stats is a pretty bad indicator on vdip:
I play mostly small variants (<7 players), which makes it far easier to win/draw (In a 5 player game, each player has ~1/5 chance of ending the game with the most SCs, in a 35 player game, the chance is ~1/35).

Being a fan of poker, I don't mind the point system too much. In theory one should try harder in a 100 point game then a 5 point game (ie. Say I'm in two games right now, but during my lunch break I only have time to check on one of them. I should probably check the 100 point game.). To keep with the poker analogy, if 90% of the hands (games) I bet on I win, but then I go all in on one hand and lose, my lack of points will be my own fault.

I'd love for someone to implement the GR here on vdip. Oli did consider a few years back moving from the points system to an ELO system, and I would support a renewed effort. Since we have a RR restricting the number of games people play, I think entirely removing points and replacing it will a ELO would be fine.

Now we technically do have a semi-ELO stat on this site. I did have a problem with it (can't remember exactly why though) nor can I remember how its calculated, so I'd rather a switch to GR, but for now this is the best we can do:
http://vdiplomacy.net/hof.php?userID=2295
http://vdiplomacy.net/hof.php?userID=2090
(have to copy and paste the full URL, not just the userID to see this)

Maple technically has a higher ELO rating than you Draug
fasces349 (1007 D)
05 Sep 14 UTC
On another note, I think Draug/YCHTT needs a more appropriate nickname:
I still call you Draug, but for people who aren't familiar with you on webdip, that nickname doesn't make sense.
YCHTT doesn't roll of the tongue, and neither does any other acronym or short form for YCHTT.

Barring the homophobic slurs that maple will always use, whats an appropriate nickname for you on this site?

@faeces - Regarding "Tuscany NMR throwing a monkey wrench into the stalemate" That's a joke, right?

You didn't see the move to Warsaw? All I need to do in the Med/Marseilles is block it up. The game was over FOREVER. I was MASSIVE up north.

"You didn't see the move to Warsaw? All I need to do in the Med/Marseilles is block it up. The game was over FOREVER. I was MASSIVE up north."
You had a ~87.5% chance of taking Warsaw before Turkey could get enough armies up there to secure the stalemate line.

Had I not NMRed you probably still would have won, but it turned a probability into a guarantee.
mapleleaf (1155 D X)
05 Sep 14 UTC
It was 100%. Two on one. Support from Gal and Mos cut. You are a MORON.
Keep up the name calling, maple. Go ahead. Oli will step in, I guarantee.

I made mistakes this game. Irony is, before this one, I had a higher VDip ELO rating than maple. But all three of us made mistakes including my decision to screw Austria for his refusal to draw or cancel and restart when the beginning had so many NMRs. I've no qualm with maple's win. My disgust is with his sore winner approach to insulting his opponents. Which is why he is the first and only player on my blocked list.
