New convoy-code.
Thanks to tobi1 we have a new and improved convoy-code.
This was really a problem for all "big" variants.
Very cool you could solve this problem. I did take a look at your code, but I'm absolutely clueless... :-)
So, tobi1, enlighten us fellow devs with your optimization algorithm.

Thanks for the announcement.

Though of course I tried to find a sufficient set of test cases there can always be some bugs left, especially as my set of different devices and browsers is very limited. So if you observe any problems like convoy orders that you cannot set or invalid convoy orders that you can set or an irresponsive website / site crashes do not hesitate to report them. So I could try to fix those bugs as soon as possible.

While working on the convoy code, Enriador and I prepared some more variants for the interactive map, as well. Many thanks to Enriador here who is much more effective than me in preparing the maps and gives me hope, that we will finally complete the list of variants with interactive map support. And who apparently finds time to do this stuff between producing one variant after another. Very impressive! :-)

So for those like YCHTT who might be interested in the algorithm: The main problem with the convoy code weren't the simple convoy path searches from A to B but more complex ones A to B via C. Those searches / checks are needed to see if a fleet at C can actually convoy an army from A to B. The original algorithm for this as well as for the normal A to B problem was very basic and literally searched for *every* simple path from A to B until it find one that passes through C, as well.
This basic approach is sufficient for small maps like the classic one. But issues are even known for webdip's World variant. On bigger variants like the WWIV ones the path searches and checks were just deactivated so you could enter invalid convoys here (though that wouldn't pass the adjudicator). But fortunately there was much room for optimization.
I followed a first approach a few weeks ago that reduces the number of paths that were searched. But that was not enough for the extreme test case of a WWIV sealanes map with fleets on every sea province. So I put more thoughts into the problem and am confident to claim that I found an efficient way to search a small set of paths from A to C (or B to C depending on what is further away) that can be labeled as relevant routes. This in the end leads to algorithm that is producing correct results even on the extreme sealanes test case in just a few 10 ms.
However, I do not want to go into more detail here but - as Oli did - I will point to the Github repository. I tried to add a sufficient documentation so somebody else can actually work on my code. I'm not a Perl or PHP guy but it is similar enough to C++ I should be able to follow it. Thanks for the effort!

Gunboat specs
If the "Gunboat", "Public Press", or "Per Rulebook" rules are employed, shouldn't the game be automatically "Anon" as well? If it weren't, then players could just PM each other, defeating the purpose.

Question about social norms for players
In a large game, a reliable player asked the mods to extend the game for Easter. The request was general and largely in the name of other player: "Hey guys, it's Easter, and in a big game, some people will probably be traveling to see family." The extension was granted, and requests like that are likely to be accepted.

Noob question
Hi, long time dipper, first time vdipper. Is it possible to enter orders using an android phone, or do I have to wait to get in front of a PC? The orders field just says "loading order" and nothing else happens.

Bot wars
I've been wondering how well you could write a script to play gunboat diplomacy. Probably not very well (at least to begin with!), but it would be fun to try. I don't really have the time to do this properly right now, but I'm interested to know if it has been done before, or whether anyone would be keen to try at some point in the future.

Issue with South American Supremacy Map
Hey, I'm getting ready to start a game with some friends using the South American Supremacy map. It appears the map is starting with a fleet in Bogata, which is a landlocked territory. the variant homepage lists Bogata as starting with an army. Is there is a good way to correct this? Thanks!

Map Markings
I apologize if this is a repeat question or if it's found somewhere obvious, but I'm brand new to vDiplomacy and I can't seem to find what the difference is between the two types of what I believe are SC markings on the Bye Bye Federalism map.

Can someone help me?

Option to play a variant with fewer than the max number of players?
Hello all,

I and two of my friends love playing 3 player diplo games together. Having gone through the different 3 player maps, I'm wondering if there is a way to play on some of the larger variants, but with just 3 people? For instance, I'd love it if we could play a 3 player game on Fall of the American Empire IV.

Policy For Site Unavailability/Glitch
What do you mods think about having some kind of policy posted to address when the site goes down or is not functional in the future? You have chosen to cancel the 1st game of Divided States over this, but the last time I was involved in a game that had this happen, the last phase was replayed. So currently, the response isn't consistent.

Join Team Iberia in the 2018 webDiplomacy World Cup

Improvement suggestions?

Can't send press during build phase?
Hi, during one of my games, I seem to not be able to send press during build phase? I have been away from the site for a few years, so is this a new feature/rule I'm unaware of or is there something wrong with the game I'm in?

Email notifications?
Does vDiplomacy not have an option to send email notifications upon important game events?

I just recently set up a game, then came back to check on it a couple days later only to find that I'd NMR'd it without even knowing. I couldn't find anything in my email, even in Spam or Trash.
