25 Nov 14 UTC Guaroz (Gamedirector): Hi Everybody,
There's only one game left still ongoing, in this first Round. Nobody knows how long it will take, but in the meanwhile I thought that you could appreciate the following reminders.

Please everyone, start checking your own Integrity rate. If it's not good enough, you might be unable to join your next Round games.
You don't find everyday a good CD-position to take over and sometimes you don't find any at all. So please be smart, check now and often your Integrity rate and in case fix it asap.

Another good idea might be to brush up on the Rulebook. Months pass and you might forget something important. As usual, I'm available via PM if anything.

Thank you! :)

26 Nov 14 UTC GG to everybody. I think I owe an apology to Poland and Russia for the mistake that let Turkey into Switzerland, sealing the win (after that, taking Morocco was trivial). OTOH, the decision to attack Spain was completely rational: I estimated I had a ~60% chance of getting 5 SCs out of the 6 owned by Spain (which would give me 6 more tournament points: the 5 SCs, plus 0.5 points each from survival and winner points), and a ~ 40% chance of getting 4 SCs out of six (net gain of 2.5 points: +4 SCs, +0.5 survival points, -2 winner points). Since I would profit even in the worse case scenario (and remembering that Spain kicked me out os Gibraltar/Morocco), I went for it. My reasoning was correct, and we could have ended with a 4-way draw (meaning a +1 also for Russia and Poland), had I not made the mistake of trying to cut Marseille rather than support Switzerland :-(
26 Nov 14 UTC well ... last hope for poor italy was to be at turkeys mercy ... after being to busy holding him back, and being stabbed by the vile french king, all i could do was embrace the sultan and hope.
26 Nov 14 UTC (i can of course understand frances decision ... but from that moment i was in survival-at-all-cost mode)
26 Nov 14 UTC Is it possible to get negative points? Thats how bad this game went for me. I was pretty much attacked by all of my neighbors right from the start. I don't know exactly what I was supposed to do.
26 Nov 14 UTC I did not do much at all the entire game - support holding was more or less all I could do when Ukraine and Turkey kept pushing
26 Nov 14 UTC Germany, in my case I attacked you because I had nowhere else to go: Russia was needed to contain Turkey/Ukraine, Poland was too far, France was being cooperative, and I could not run the risk of a France-Spain alliance; I very much wanted to get back Gibraltar from Spain, but in that moment it was simply impossible.
26 Nov 14 UTC It’s quite embarrassing, but I didn’t bother to do the math properly.
Shame on me.
I played under the feeling that this was more resembling to WTA rather than PPSC.
On the contrary, ne number of SCs owned at the end do matter a lot in the final calculations.
This being said, you may understand why I played that way the last part of the game.

In any case, this is not actually a PPSC either, since a 10 pts boost is given to the winner.
So England, while (afterwards) I’m basically in agreement with your premeditated calculation of your own pros…allowing someone else to win is giving him a huge advantage in a tournament, since we’re all on the same standings and the points are (partially) carried over to the following turns.
Switzerland was not defendable so you must have gone with the assumption that Turkey had to solo anyway.
I wonder why you did not take Sweden in the last move of the game. That was 1 more free point, wasn’t it?

Luckily for us, Spartan22 was eliminated in the parallel game, else, so he did not flee away with points in the final standings.

Good game anyway. I did actually enjoy it.
26 Nov 14 UTC I actually moved to Berlin because once he made the poor decision to throw the solo I no longer trusted him.
27 Nov 14 UTC Spain, I started with the assumption that this was basically a WTA with some SC-related correction, too; but towards the end I read the rules more carefully (I even asked some technical questions to Guaroz), and realized it was the other way round, so I switched to that kind of play.
And I wish to defend my strategic calculation (at the expense of exposing my huge tactical mistake): when I attacked you, the solo was a risk, but it was far from inevitable: just look at the Spring 2008 map, and change A Lyo -> Mar into A Lyo s A Swi. I actually thought that the critical points were Barcelona and Gibraltar, and gave Switzerland little attention. Without that (huge) mistake, we'd be talking about a 4-way draw. So, if Russia and Poland want to complain about that, I can only say "shame on me"; but I am still convinced that my attack on you would have been the "right" decision even in a WTA game.
As to why I did not get Sweden, 2 reasons: 1) a likely gain of ~ 6 points (and getting revenge about Gibraltar/Morocco) was able to overcome my WTA istincts, but I thought 1 point was not worth it; 2) some sort of shame/shock for my swiss blunder.
Finally, about the tournament: one minor reason for my risky attack was that I had been eliminated in the FAE game, and felt that I needed every point I could get to avoid elimination, and that trumped any concern about giving a large advantage to one player.
