15 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1901: Info: This is a choose your country game.
14 May 18 UTC Poor decisions on my behalf (and mistake in orders) cost me a possible solo. A shame, as I was making strides in actually taking the 2nd solo which would've prolonged my FoW title and finally be a title that even YCHTT would have to acknowledge.

Congratulations d-ice, new FoW champ ;-)
14 May 18 UTC And thank you Spartan for the lovely fight you put up!
14 May 18 UTC Exciting finish (wish I could have watched it). Well done d-ice (and bob and Dr Rev too, in with a shot up to the last game)
14 May 18 UTC I was quite stoked when the 6th game ended with me being in top dog position in game 7 with both other contestants for 1st place still in game (and knowing them to be France and Germany). Yet, everyone put up an excellent fight and it didn't help that I put one of my orders after a night of boozing haha.
14 May 18 UTC Many a war is lost by the actions of a general after a night of heavy drinking
14 May 18 UTC ^True words are spoken
14 May 18 UTC Well done to the drawers. Is this thing over now? ;-)
15 May 18 UTC Congrats. These Fog tournaments have been the best of the #x# tourneys, imo. Someone PM me when the next starts, please!
15 May 18 UTC Oh wow, I was greatly surprised to see this game end in a draw this morning. The early game was very fun with momentum shifting back and forth in the west as the three powers kept battling each other. Germany got a strong grip early by timing his attack perfectly as I committed against England. Italy keeping his fingers away while Russia interfered in Scandinavia meant that I was able to fight Germany back and finally get the upper hand and take control over the west, but not without a hard fight.

Mid-game I thought Spartan was heading for the win when I could see a massive 4 Russian fleets in the north. In my mind it had to mean that Russia had a very strong position in the south. Thus I decided to make it my only objective to stop the solo. With Dr.Rec on defense I felt confident about commiting to taking over England and push for Scandinavia. It seemed to work well, but I still had no idea what was going on in the south, so I was just hoping that Bob would be able to hold his part of the line. Then came the shock, in Winter 1913. Russia disbanded a fleet in Norway! Sure, I realized that Germany had probably taken back Berlin, but I was surprised to see Russia disband Nwy anyway, it implied he sought to hold the stalemate. But the draw wasn't called as I would have expected, so I was starting to think that maybe I had read the board wrong? Had Russia overcommitted to the north and now losing ground in the the south? Was it actually Bob that was now pushing for the victory with Russia having all his units tied up in Scandinavia? I went back and forth and analyzed the board again and again before entering the spring 1914 moves. I decided to pull back and safe-guard Mar and Med, expecting an Italian attack. But then again... this was my chance. What if my initial analysis was correct after all? This was then my chance to pull the trigger. Seal the deal in Scandinavia and then start pushing fleets into the Med. So I changed my moves to push for Denmark instead and when I saw the moves hours later I could only accept that Marseilles had been lost, and if Italy was fully commited then I had lost Spain too. I would be able to hold the rest though as long as Germany and Russia realized there was an Italian solo-threat. I felt confident that Spartan would know, but I didn't know how much intel Dr.Rec had - so I tried to make the retreat as obvious as I could. Glad it worked out. Thank you all for another great game and another great FoW tournament. I've really enjoyed these matches and would gladly play another.
15 May 18 UTC Thanks for your elaborate perspective d-ice, very interesting to read ;-)
15 May 18 UTC Thanks all for a wonderful tournament overall and especially this last game was great fun. I thought I was cruising to what could have been a respectable finish overall by soloing the final game. I had the upper hand in Austria and Turkey, controlled Scandinavia and North Sea, and Germany wasn't attacking me! I think ultimately my 1910 build for my 4th northern fleet did me in as it coincided with what was to be my downfall is steadily losing ground to BobRoss. It was a great back and forth for a while but my losing of ground was inevitable so I opted to try and recover by moving on Germany to take Berlin in 1911 hoping I'd be able to eventually hold Italy in Austria, take Turkey and make progress in Germany/England. Boy was I wrong. I kept losing ground and units. My 1912 disband was intended to tell Germany I was losing ground and giving up my attack (unfortunately didn't have Denmark to tell France as well]. 1913 rolls around and my message did it's part to some extent with d-ice and I think without knowledgeable players, this would have been a cakewalk solo for BobRoss. Well played gentlemen!

15 May 18 UTC A little extra kudos to Dr Rec too for points in 4 of 7 games. Bit of a gap between 3rd and 4th. But me, Spartan, Truth and Tantrum are itching for revenge. (Assuming you don’t all jump on me in 1901 again)
15 May 18 UTC Well done d-ice! Great effort. I was at the doctor today and was prescribed an antifungal cream. But now thanks to Grahamso1, I realise the problem is in fact my itching for revenge.
15 May 18 UTC Hahah

By the way, i forgot to say: I really want to compliment everyone on the really excellent level of play in this tournament (3 games of FoW Gunboat ending in a draw says quite a lot!) It was an absolute pleasure to play this tournament thanks to all of you.
15 May 18 UTC I love reading all the praise, gratitude, and pats on the back after a Diplomacy series. As it should be!
