Support Rules and Dislodgings
I'm guessing you guys play by strange rules. I've never seen this not happen outside of here: One, if a force gets dislodged, the move cuts supports/convoys. Two, to cut a support/convoy, it has to get moved towards. The supporting or convoying unit doesn't have to actually get dislodged.
Argotitan (1182 D)

In sum, support holding a supporting/convoying unit only defends it from getting dislodged. It doesn't actually support the integrity of the support or convoy order.

It may not be the conventional rules, but it makes perfect sense, at least when they aren't being support held. They would have to use their forces to defend themselves.

Where the hell did you learn to play the game? Most of your forum posts are just starting to piss me off with how stupid they sound.

Just to give an example:

http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/2285/q7in.png

What's supposed to happen is red and blue bounce.

What happens here is red takes blue 1 because red 3's support move is support held.

Sandgoose, read pages 9 and 10 here for the official rules:

http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf

Support is cut if the unit giving support is attacked from any province except the one where support is given.

A unit being dislodged can still cut support in another.

Please give evidence for your assertion that red would take blue's 1. Never experienced such a behavior on this site ...

"Support is cut if the unit giving support is attacked from any province except the one where support is given.

A unit being dislodged can still cut support in another."

And that is what happens on this site as well, just look at the DATC tests ....

Just to give another example:

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/8093/9s6a.png

What's supposed to happen is blue 3 cuts red 3 despite getting dislodged, so blue 1 holds.

What happens here is red 3 gets dislodged, so the move doesn't resolve and blue 1 gets dislodged too.
Argotitan (1182 D)

tobi, what I've experienced is if a support moving unit gets support held, a non-dislodging move into the support mover doesn't cut the support.
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))

I experienced something different, so please give a game link to prove your assertion.

tobi, I think a common example of this happening is in 2v2s. I've even asked about this before, and it's been confirmed.

If you have a 2v2 where two side's support moves are support moving themselves into the opposite side's support move, but one side's support move is support held, then the support held side wins.

That's not supposed to happen. It's still supposed to bounce since both sides supports are cut whether they're dislodged or not.
Argotitan (1182 D)
24 Oct 13 UTC
Sorry about grammar there.

...two sides'* support moves...

...both sides'* supports...
Argotitan (1182 D)
24 Oct 13 UTC
Example: http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/7235/e6e3.png

What I've been told is that red wins because its support move was support held.

In reality, red and blue should bounce since merely getting moved into cuts support.
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))

Ok, I assume, you mean something like this (around Munich and Berlin):

http://www.vdiplomacy.com/map.php?gameID=16191&turn=10&mapType=large

The Munich support is cut although it is support held by even two units. So everything works as it should with common rules.

If somebody told you, that red would win with the rules used on vdip, he simply told some rubbish.

Did I get your point now?

tobi is correct. As are you Argo. In your example, they should bounce. Similarly, I've never seen anything that indicates that the rules are incorrect on here. Anyone who is telling you that red would win in your example doesn't understand how the rules work here.

Alright. I'll try experimenting in some games to see how thing explicitly work.

Thanks guys.

Is Diplomacy Ultimately About Luck
Years ago when I first bought the board game for a group of friends, some of them didn't want to play because they saw the game was all about luck. That idea still rings in my mind from time to time.

Is Norway Undervalued in 1066?
Something I notice when playing 1066 (v2) is that England and Normandy always do battle, and Norway usually has a lot of leeway to mop things up. I guess the larger size of the North Sea spaces give the illusion that Norway is farther away, but in reality, it's just two spaces away just like Normandy.

Rational Moves Test
You guys could really use some sort of test to license people to play games in. It's annoying when irrational players ruin the game for rational players by allowing third players to win after overrunning them.

Does Drawing in WTA Backfire?
I was wondering if the logic behind WTA draws isn't necessarily reliable. Draws allow people to make alliances, and instead of drawing against the solo winner, they simply draw among themselves instead of pursuing a solo victory. Is there a way to disable drawing so this doesn't happen?

Does Anyone Want to Play a Live Classic?
It's the weekend, so I figured maybe there's a handful of several people who want to play a classic game with 10 minute turns.

Please post here if you're interested. I'll check in regularly over the new few hours in case there's interest.

This is purely out of interest. Add your variant of choice below, or if it is already on the list add a +1 to it. For me it would be:

Lab Diplomacy
I cannot get onto labdip on my computer, it just says "Error triggered: require_once(variants/Carthage/variant.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory.

This was probably caused by a software bug. The details of this error have been successfully logged and will be attended to by a developer."
Has anyone else had this problem? (I am using google chrome, on IE it always says I'm using an invalid cookie).
