Thank you to all the men and women who served not only on the front line, but back at home as well. They all did us a great service. Let us pay respects to front line soldiers on both sides as they were just men following orders and doing what they could for their country.

The Flipping Generals SRG
So the idea is to set up a team gunboat with four or six players in total, two or three per team.
They play a normal team gunboat, last team alive wins.

The twist: every turn I will flip the nations within the teams.

Example: Atlantic Colonies Variant teams are France+England vs Portugal+Spain
After every diplomacy phase (including retreats and builds) I will switch the player who plays England to play France, France plays England, Portugal Spain and Spain to Portugal.
After the next diplomacy phase, I will switch them back, and so on.

So are there players interested in this and do you have suggestions on the variant? Also, I thought that alternatively flipping after every full year might be better...thoughts?

Woohoo, no ninja :D
I'd be interested depending on parameters. Phase length is the only real sticking point, as I'd need a 2-day phase and that may be too long for others' tastes. If so, I'd still spectate.

Unrated? Maybe a variable switch time to add a degree of uncertainty? For example the switch could happen every 1-3 phases.
I am interested, but I think the switch could be less often than after EVERY diplomacy phase.

I would like to echo the good doctor on the phase length. I have a hard rule of no games with a length of 24 hours or less and much prefer 2 days.

I actually like the doctor's idea about uncertainty. I will throw dice, but three turns are maximum before a shake-up, unless someone has some strong opinion against this?
One more and we'd be good with Atlantic Colonies.
As long as the phase length works for me, count me in whatever you choose. Maybe give some time to see if 6, 8, or even 9 players engage. 2-4 teams of 2-3 players?
I am in, although I don't like the Atlantic Colonies variant very much.

This is interesting. I recently watched a youtube video of one of the international team poker tourneys. They would have teams of 2 at a time and they'd deal the cards. The first player of each team would act and complete action, then the flop would come out and the cards are passed to the other player. They play post flop then pass back for the turn. The first would play post turn, and the second would play post river. No talking about the had itself, but plenty of trash talk. Was an interesting video.

I'd be interested in this as well.
Will teams be established via random draw, player choice, or ??

One more and we are good to go with 3 vs 3!

@Dr Rec for fairness purposes I would assign random teams and disclose who was who and with whom after the game ended.

I'm interested, but it looks like you have your 7-8 already. Personally I think most of the eight player maps are better than Atlantic colonies for this sort of thing. GOD, perhaps we run two games simultaneously, you and I each in only one and GM for the other?
Five teams of two?

Fall, Modern, Youngstown, Enlightenment, Colonial? Ooohh.....I do love my tournaments and series.... ;)

SRG: Secret Service
First things first, this isn't actually a game yet, I was wondering about this as a special rules game and wanted to get some comments and suggestions back on it as well as work out some difficulties. Feel free to call it too complex or impractical. Rules will follow.

1v1 game analysis
I played a 1v1 game yesterday but the other player had to leave before the game was over. I would appreciate it if someone could explain how they thought the game would go and what good moves/mistakes each player made. I'm new to 1v1 and am trying to get better
Thanks

Thoughts on improving Rinascimento
Rinascimento is a horribly unbalanced variant. While I realise it is set in a historical setting and the powers at the time were not of the same strength, it is virtually unplayable for several of the smaller factions.

Diplomacy via Whatsapp in German or English
Dear vdip community, a group of players from a German site came up with the idea of creating a gunboat game, exchanging phone numbers and communicate solely via whatsapp. I thought that the idea is pretty cool and would love to try it out.

Howdy folks! New to the site, interested in all things diplomacy. What should I know about this place so I don't step on anyone's toes? I'm Chris Martin, playing Diplomacy mostly in the USA. Looking forward to meeting folks and maybe playing a few games.

PSA: Do not create Pick Your Country games with the Choose Your Country option enabled.
There's a bug in the PYC variant that causes it to crash when the game starts if the Choose Your Country option is enabled. Getting the games to cancel after everyone has joined requires banning/unbanning one player in the game, which can cause a lot of issues if that player is in other games, and is a fair amount of work even if they're not.

Until Oli is able to fix the bug (which may be a while), please only use the Random Country Assignment option for PYC.

PBEM NWO Game
Some of you may remember last year's NWO (New-World Order) game that I GM'd. It's a play-by-email game that uses a world map with 40+ nations of varying sizes. It comes complete with wing units, nuclear missiles, and rampant back-stabbing. You can check out last year's game and the rules here: http://www.sendric.com/diplomacy/

If you are interested, you can post here, send me a private message or even email me (sendric [at] gmail [dot] com).
