Mapu, I don't think the usual issues with non-anon games would rear their heads with this quality player list, esp. since the game is unrated. Anon won't hurt my feelings, it would just be less interesting through the game not knowing who everyone is.

Wonderful! I go away for the night, and we're almost there! Anyone have an objection to 3 day phases, with the understanding that retreats/builds will be reading as soon as they can be? If not, I'll start a game and get it rolling while we look for #12.

Regarding anon/non, I prefer non for an unrated game of veterans. One thing I've enjoyed with PBEM is the getting to know the other players aspect of things. I feel vdip (and really all online dip) would really benefit from encouragingore personal communication as well as pure dip communication. If there's concerns about integrity though, we can play anon.

I like non. I do think this group has any concerns of met gaming,so let's go non-anon. And 3 day with ready builds/retreats is good by me.

Agree with the Truth. Allowing three days for dip during moving phases is great when paired with a gentleman's agreement to ready up retreats and builds when you can. This way there's plenty of good discussions and negotiations without the stagnation a waiting three days for one retreat order, and another three days for a couple/few adjustments - phases that are not meant to have a negotiation period anyway.

I would add that part of my interest in Rinascimento is to study as a group the various dynamics of the imbalance starting positions, and to assess whether or not they truly resent advantages/disadvantages of significance. It seems to me that a full press game would be best to that end.

Are we going to apply "rulebook press" as it is on webdip or are we going to use press in standard vdip mode?
I'm fine with both, but I'd like to know it clearly for you to avoid misunderstandings.

"Per rulebook" means no discussion during builds and retreats as per the original Diplomacy rulebook. In this mode, saved retreats and builds are automatically readied for the next turn.

Since it'd be great if we could speed up the retreats/builds, I'd prefer it if we went on an honor code of no talking during builds/retreats. Otherwise we'll just end up with people waiting for "one more message" which ends up taking 2 days and then why bother trying to speed things up?

I don't think I've ever played an online game that tried to enforce that rule. Honour code seems like a weak compromise, but if I'll abide by it if we agree to it.

Kinda wish default retreats/builds was more of a thing in online diplomacy. Too much hangs in the balance if you miss a retreat/build. Would be interesting to code that option into web/vdip.
