Classic Redrawn
I got bothered with some of the historical inaccuracies of the Classic map - like French Corsica being painted Italian green - so I went on and redrawed the entire map.

Territory Diagram
I wonder why VDip is not using Territory Diagram to reveal the dinamics of territory occupation in time. Now it's working rather good. But for maps with neutrals it still has several bugs. We use this module on Diplomail. Please check: https://ibb.co/mFZF3o

'Edwardian' - A new variant
Greetings diplomats.

I present you @VaeVictis's 'Edwardian' - an upcoming jewel to vDiplomacy's glorious crown. 'Edwardian' is set in 1901, the start of the Edwardian Era, and represents the intrigue and tension of the period with a level of elegance and detail never seen before

Known World 901 question re rebuilt armies
The variant page says that "This map is build anywhere and has neutral standing armies that disband when dislodged, but will be rebuild if the relevant Home Supply Center is vacant and unowned during the build-phase in autumn." but looking at completed games, I don't see the standing armies getting rebuilt. Does this mean I need to always occupy my own SCs in the fall or else they turn back into neutral standing armies? Can someone explain this to me?

Mistake in Known World 901 variant
In "Known World 901" we have Principality of Kiev (short - Russia). But it's a mistake which I have fixed when I did the php-adaptation to Western Known World 901 variant. The power must be called as Kievan Rus (short - Rus). It's not Russia at all. So it must be also fixed in Known World 901 variant I think.

New Variants (yup, plural!)
Four new variants, based on Classic, will be coming to vDip!

Some of these were directly taken from the DP Judge. Others were lost in the Variant Bank for a long while.

Nice! :D

@Brazilian I can't see whether North Atlantic Ocean and Edinburgh, or Clyde and Norwegian Sea, are connected. Could you improve the drawing on this?
@Britian That's yolo xD
@Croatia Interesting.
@Egypt Interesting too, but I think that the connection between the Atlantic Ocean and Red Sea will never be used in the early and even midgame.
Mercy (2131 D)

Never mind about the Brazilian comment; I just read the variant description.
Enriador (1507 D)
22 May 18 UTC
@Mercy, I am glad you like them.

I don't think the Red Sea was supposed to be used much early, to be honest. It's kinda like North Africa in that regard. However I can see it as an extra pathway for Turkish expansion which would enable easier T/I and T/A alliances.

all these variants of late are amazing to see ^^ and as for England with all the armies I'm just seeing someone like germany is about to get over run so to mess with russia and france they convoy a single army of englands into german sc's so that england can get a fleet and start causing mayhem xD
JECE (1534 D)

You should probably make clear under "Special rules/information" that Suez is a canal province in the Egypt variant.
Caerus (1470 D)

I am confused... Is it not yet up? I can't seem to select Britain from the new games menu.
Enriador (1507 D)
23 May 18 UTC
'Britain' sounds like a ton of fun for the Western countries to figure out. I don't think many will ignore those six SCs nicely packed together!

'Brazilian' is a pirated version, also how I heard of Diplomacy for the first time. Never got to play the game myself, unfortunately it got out of print in Brazil.

'Croatia' has several variations, actually. Some, like Fred Davis, call the new Austrian home center "Zara". Others (Larry Peery comes to mind) prefer to name it "Split". Zara was the capital of Dalmatia and Split was the largest city, so as a compromise I called the place Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia. It's a city with a lot of historical significance and the province is basically Bosnia anyway.

"Egypt" is a very interesting design; Africa effectively becomes a key area of the board like Scandinavia or the Balkans, giving Italy and Turkey an extra bit of flexibility. Should be fun!

@JECE, thanks for the tip. I will update the rules.

@Caerus, it's not up yet, no. They are all ready for play but it's better to give some space between releases so all variants can shine on the spotlight.
Caerus (1470 D)

@Enriador Any idea when these will be making their debut? I really want to play Britain.
Caerus (1470 D)
10 Jul 18 UTC
To be clear. I understand your point about each variant getting their own chance to shine, I am simply wondering how long the backlog is.
Enriador (1507 D)
10 Jul 18 UTC
@Caerus, there isn't a preset order per se. We can push "Britain" up though. =)

Next variant will likely be "Caucasia". Then we can have "Britain". You can have a rough estimate of what is coming up by looking at my profile description.

>Brazilian<
Mostly a curiosity, or for nostalgic purposes for those who started on the Latin American bootleg copy.

>Britain<
That variant looks crazy, but emulates Britain only entering the war relatively late. I'm curious how the dynamics will play out with Britain basically auto-aligned with Germany or France in the Western triangle.

>Croatia<
Looks like yet another fix to the Trieste-Venice tension.
I predict an even wilder rider for Austria than usual, as Croatia borders all three home centers. Austria will now have to be on guard about Galicia, about Croatia, while also not neglecting to get a foot into the Balkans.

>Egypt<
Now _this_ is an interesting variant. It vastly improves Italy and broadens its options by giving them two pretty guaranteed neutrals, a better attack vector against Turkey, and it opens another passage between the northern and the southern maritime theatres, with fairly even-handed access from both sides..
I suspect it might be a bit too much of a good thing for Italy (and that Turkey will draw the short stick), but I definitively need to try this one.

I would love to see Mongolian Empire here too. Have they fixed the bugs?

How are they "auto-aligned"?

> predict an even wilder rider for Austria than usual, as Croatia borders all three home centers. Austria will now have to be on guard about Galicia, about Croatia, while also not neglecting to get a foot into the Balkans. <

Same as Classic, only better. In Classic Austria commonly has to guard Trieste - hence why F Tri-Ven is the most popular move for that unit.

If Italy gets into Croatia, Austria has a chance. If Italy gets into Trieste, Austria is guaranteed to lose a home center no matter how they play. A far cry, don't you think?
Skyrock (1149 D)

>How are they "auto-aligned"?<
England is essentially forced to get the help of either France or Germany to put its armies to use within the first two years. Conversely, a Sealion alliance of France and Germany against England is doomed to failure. An attack on England only becomes feasible once its armies are spread out and not able to support-hold each against whatever weak early game naval offense can be launched.
Enriador (1507 D)
10 Jul 18 UTC
You missed an important part: France & Germany may just ignore England until they can bring enough firepower in the endgame... or the Prime Minister NMRs out of boredom!
Skyrock (1149 D)
10 Jul 18 UTC
That might happen, but would result in a stalemate between France and Germany - unless they break out of the Western triangle dynamics very early, such as through an FR or an GI alliance. Like I said, putting one of the two central triangles out whack would mess up the usual early game power dynamics a lot.
Enriador (1507 D)
10 Jul 18 UTC
>putting one of the two central triangles out whack would mess up the usual early game power dynamics a lot.<

Yup, that's why I believe it may lead to very dynamic partnerships.

Bringing an English army to the continent is a double-edged sword... England may be a helpful ally at first, but if they get a fleet they will be able to expand on their own.

Once a 6-center England at the corner of the board starts rolling, good luck defending from that!

Currently 13/35 countries remain and my country, Brazil, is in 8th place after some set backs with NMRs.
