Is Norway Undervalued in 1066?
Something I notice when playing 1066 (v2) is that England and Normandy always do battle, and Norway usually has a lot of leeway to mop things up. I guess the larger size of the North Sea spaces give the illusion that Norway is farther away, but in reality, it's just two spaces away just like Normandy.

Looking For Replacement

Germany still has over 20 SCs, and Italy looks like it's going to overrun. We could use a German player to keep things balanced.

Rational Moves Test
You guys could really use some sort of test to license people to play games in. It's annoying when irrational players ruin the game for rational players by allowing third players to win after overrunning them.

Does Drawing in WTA Backfire?
I was wondering if the logic behind WTA draws isn't necessarily reliable. Draws allow people to make alliances, and instead of drawing against the solo winner, they simply draw among themselves instead of pursuing a solo victory. Is there a way to disable drawing so this doesn't happen?

Variant play testing (Gobble-Earth)
Hi
I'm looking for some people to take part in the play test of the variant Gobble-Earth; we have already filled it up halfway.

I'm the developer of the variant map Gobble-Earth, which expands the original map to include the entire 1914 world. It's been playtested several times before and only need a short check on lab.vdiplomacy.com before proper games can be started here. The game is called Imperial Issues.

Below is a link to the map of the variant. It can of course also be found in the variant database in the lab

That is a beautiful map.

I like it!
If you can pull off that map quality it'll be the best looking variant so far!

Colombia seems biased against with only 2 home centers. I see how it's to balance the early game, but that can really destroy it in the late game when it can't deploy units quickly enough.
Unless this is a build-anywhere variant.

Anyway we can discuss potential issues during the test-game.

Lukas, did you read the info on lab?
Sorry, I just did and I got it now. It's basically a trade-off of building in a colonial area and building on time.

Thanks for the link Scuba Steve. Only two more people to go now!
I'm happy people like the design of the map. I've tried to make it look like if it is from 1914. vdiplomacy of course requires another design, but this one is excellent as a board.

Colombia surely looks weak, but surprisingly enough (also to me) the play tests so far has shown Colombia to be better than average in performance. The home centers are of course an important aspects for any power, but once the empire extends more than three-four provinces from home they decrease in importance. The experience shows that building home and then moving the units to the front is rather equal to building a year later closer to the front.

It is rather hard to keep track of private messages under the status quo as they are integrated under the Notices tab. Is it possible for our fellow Moderators to create a Messages tab?

Does Anyone Want to Play a Live Classic?
It's the weekend, so I figured maybe there's a handful of several people who want to play a classic game with 10 minute turns.

Please post here if you're interested. I'll check in regularly over the new few hours in case there's interest.

out of interest - what variant would you like to see as FoW?
This is purely out of interest. Add your variant of choice below, or if it is already on the list add a +1 to it. For me it would be:

Lab Diplomacy
I cannot get onto labdip on my computer, it just says "Error triggered: require_once(variants/Carthage/variant.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory.

This was probably caused by a software bug. The details of this error have been successfully logged and will be attended to by a developer."
Has anyone else had this problem? (I am using google chrome, on IE it always says I'm using an invalid cookie).

Diplomatic Strategy
I am somewhat new to this site (although I have been playing Diplomacy for several years now) and I noticed diplomatic relations were conducted a bit differently then what I am accustomed to.
So I guess I'm wondering how you conduct yours. What you except from your neighbors within the first turn, what you expect of your allies, how and why you conduct stabs, and the like.

Is There a Cheating Report Thread
I'm playing a 3 player game with winner take all where the guy in second is cooperating with the guy in first despite how the guy in first is on the verge of victory and I'm nearly eliminated.

It's highly suspicious and looks like cheating. Can I report this anywhere?
