Suggested Feature
Larger maps make it possible that players face stalemate lines while other areas of the map remain dynamic. If these players have a large number of units (as is likely if stalemate lines have formed), it requires the repetitive entry of exactly the same orders. May I recommend that a button is created which allows you to 'Enter the same moves as last time'? There's no reason that one or two moves shouldn't then be modified afterwards.

ID#19708 looking for replacement. "The last war before we invade aliens"
Map is WWIV. I'm the Sichuan empire, with 24 supply centers, 19 units, no powerful enemies of consequence, and current leader. Progressing to around 27 centers soon, most probably. However, I have school soon so I need a replacement. See http://vdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=19708

hey oli and the mods I have a quick question.
My friends and I are thinking about doing a livestream in December when we all are finally together.
I was wondering if they could make their own accounts so we could all play a 4 player only map.
They won't play any other games but the ones we make for the stream and they won't play or join any of my personal games.
So basically its a free for all between 4 good friends. What could go possibly wrong?:)

I have a couple of rules questions regarding variants.
With variants that say they do not allow for a draw, is that the case? Do those formats not have stalemate lines, or how do those games resolve if a stalemate is reached.

WWIV Sealanes Game
So, the last time I tried to get one going, we hit around 26-27 players before the time limit killed it. To my knowledge, there are no games ongoing aside from those gunboats.

Middle-East variant
I've started work on a variant of the contemporary Middle-East, but as I'm not an expert at balancing variants, I was wondering if someone can give me some insight into how to make it fair?

RE: Obama's Response to ISIS and the Refugees
There are 40,000 - 50,000 minority refugees, a majority of them Christian, fleeing for their lives from ISIS. And what is ISIS doing to these men, women and children. They are beheading the children and women and hanging the men. They are closing in these people.

Opinioniated favorite variants
Hello all! I'm not familiar with all these variants compared to what are on Webdiplomacy. I'm looking to play some games but I'm not sure which ones are really good and which ones are not so much fun. So what's popular variant wise?

"Save" and "Ready" buttons aren't working. What's wrong?
I was able to successfully fill in orders for one game of mine, but the save and ready buttons aren't working on another. Here's a link: gameID=19797

I'm not sure if this is relevant information, but beside the conventional drop-down order interface is the interactive one, which says "(loading)" at the end.

Hey, it probably has something to do with convoys. Example: If you have a unit in Belgium, and order it to move to Holland, and there is a fleet in the North Sea, it will ask you if you want it by convoy or land. If you don't fill in this extra drop down menu, it won't save or ready up.
Oli (977 D Mod (P))

Usually that's a problem with a missing "via-convoy" option.
Maybe I will change this, so if there is a possibility it defaults to "via land".

Next time you have an issue bring it up in the modforum, so we can pause the game till it's resolved...
Tomahaha (1170 D)

I like the default to land myself as this is usually the case and if you were convoying, that would rarely be forgotten? Is it possible to make that "VIA" portion in red or some color to alert you?
You could make the drop down autofocus if it is needed for the order. Then people wouldn't miss it. I fear having a default will just lead to more "but I wanted to convoy!" mistakes and complaints.
Windir (1570 D)

I appreciate your responses. The problem is not missing the via-convoy option; this happened during the Builds phase. I made two fleet builds, one army build, and postponed two others. It wouldn't let me save even though I had perfectly valid orders filled. I'll post this on the mod forum as Oli suggested so the spring phase doesn't continue without me.

Hi, Windir.

I have noticed recently that the "Save" and "Ready" buttons aren't working during the Builds Phase unless EVERY potential Build has been given an order. In other words, I can't Save nor Ready my Builds one at a time, for example.
That means that I have now to actually select the option "Postpone Build" for every Build that I want to postpone. Some time ago, that wasn't needed : when I wanted to postpone Builds, I could simply click Save or Ready without selecting "Postpone Builds".
Maybe that is the situation that you have encountered ?
Windir (1570 D)

Retillion,

I actually selected the postpone build option, so I don't think that's the problem. I have continued to experience this in the spring phase, so it's a much larger issue.

Hi Windir,

I don't know what's going on in the mod forum about your issue, but that the interactive map does not complete loading is definitely a bad sign. Since I might be responsible for the problem, I'd like to take a look. Perhaps you could send me your game via the country switch tool for a few hours, so I can find out what's the problem with your order interface and if the interactive map is the problem.
Oli (977 D Mod (P))

Looks like a browser issue to me.
I was able to enter orders for Windir without any problems.
Tomahaha (1170 D)

and me being a newbie to the site where all is new, I have not had this problem myself. I DO have to submit waived build orders for each, but as stated that isn't the problem here and I don't mind having to do this.

I think it's because the buttons are so close together you are hitting both at once.. :P
Is JavaScript turned on? Nothing works without it.
Windir (1570 D)

I think Oli is right; it's probably a browser issue that's specific specific to that variant since the interactive map isn't loading. This is a hotel computer, so I can't download a better version. The gamestate just got extended by 4 days, so I can wait two days until I'm back from vacation. Thanks for the help!

Please try to reload the page after it did load and if this does not work make a post in the modforum.
Please include gameID and the commands you want to use.
A post here does not help to resolve this.

Small update.
It might be a problem with IExplorer 8 and older... But we will do some additional tests.
If you experience any problems try deactivation the IA-map from your settings page.
IE 8? Good lord that's old. :-)

Multiple Cancelings?
So... I was in a game of Rinacemento that had not yet started. Not enough people joined. So it canceled. And canceled. And canceled. And canceled. I have NINE messages saying it canceled, BUT, I was NOT refunded 9 times! Not to mention, it still shows up in my games... which is annoying.... I WANT MY REFUND!

Perpetual Diplomacy
Is there a variant of Diplomacy that is designed to be a perpetual game? In other words, players are free to come and go as they please, but the motivation is to be the biggest player on the board, not to "win".

Diplomacy on the Radio
I'm listening to an episode of the radio program "This American Life" about Diplomacy. Featuring the same guy who recently wrote the Diplomacy article on Grantland. Not sure if it's the current episode or a repeat, but I figured I'd mention it here for those interested. Should be available on podcast now or soon.

Oli, thank you for the color-blindness interface.
I have protonapia and this is awesome. That plus labeling the countries speaking global and the interactive map males it so much better and less confusing... Even on the phone (interactive doesn't let me interact but still shows what I ordered using the drop down).
