Suggested Feature
Larger maps make it possible that players face stalemate lines while other areas of the map remain dynamic. If these players have a large number of units (as is likely if stalemate lines have formed), it requires the repetitive entry of exactly the same orders. May I recommend that a button is created which allows you to 'Enter the same moves as last time'? There's no reason that one or two moves shouldn't then be modified afterwards.

ID#19708 looking for replacement. "The last war before we invade aliens"
Map is WWIV. I'm the Sichuan empire, with 24 supply centers, 19 units, no powerful enemies of consequence, and current leader. Progressing to around 27 centers soon, most probably. However, I have school soon so I need a replacement. See http://vdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=19708

hey oli and the mods I have a quick question.
My friends and I are thinking about doing a livestream in December when we all are finally together.
I was wondering if they could make their own accounts so we could all play a 4 player only map.
They won't play any other games but the ones we make for the stream and they won't play or join any of my personal games.
So basically its a free for all between 4 good friends. What could go possibly wrong?:)

I have a couple of rules questions regarding variants.
With variants that say they do not allow for a draw, is that the case? Do those formats not have stalemate lines, or how do those games resolve if a stalemate is reached.

WWIV Sealanes Game
So, the last time I tried to get one going, we hit around 26-27 players before the time limit killed it. To my knowledge, there are no games ongoing aside from those gunboats.

Middle-East variant
I've started work on a variant of the contemporary Middle-East, but as I'm not an expert at balancing variants, I was wondering if someone can give me some insight into how to make it fair?

RE: Obama's Response to ISIS and the Refugees
There are 40,000 - 50,000 minority refugees, a majority of them Christian, fleeing for their lives from ISIS. And what is ISIS doing to these men, women and children. They are beheading the children and women and hanging the men. They are closing in these people.

Opinioniated favorite variants
Hello all! I'm not familiar with all these variants compared to what are on Webdiplomacy. I'm looking to play some games but I'm not sure which ones are really good and which ones are not so much fun. So what's popular variant wise?

Multiple Cancelings?
So... I was in a game of Rinacemento that had not yet started. Not enough people joined. So it canceled. And canceled. And canceled. And canceled. I have NINE messages saying it canceled, BUT, I was NOT refunded 9 times! Not to mention, it still shows up in my games... which is annoying.... I WANT MY REFUND!

Perpetual Diplomacy
Is there a variant of Diplomacy that is designed to be a perpetual game? In other words, players are free to come and go as they please, but the motivation is to be the biggest player on the board, not to "win".

I will be combing the forum for terms and definitions. You can help by adding some here. Definitions must be non-controversial and free of opinion. I can help with wording if needed.

Thanks!

you may be reinventing the wheel.
I would humbly suggest linking to something pretty much all-inclusive such as:
http://badpets.net/Diplomacy/AtoZ/AtoZ.pdf

and then add those definitions that would be Vdip-centric
such as WTA and PPSC and the like
jimbursch (0 D)

Excellent suggestion!

The glossary I am proposing will be newb-friendly and specific to online dip terminology.

Classic - refers to the original version (map?) of Diplomacy by Allan Calhamer
webDiplomacy points - the "currency" used to buy into a game
Pot - the pool of accumulated buy ins from all players, which are then redistributed at the conclusion of a game
Cancel - refers to the act of negating a game, as if it never happened.
Draw - refers to the conclusion of a game where all remaining players agree to end without anyone winning (see Solo)
Solo - refers to the conclusion of a game where one player achieves the condition for victory. In classic, this refers to the player who reaches 18 centers after a Fall phase is processed.
Tournament - no idea how to define

Some terms when I was starting that were thrown at me and I had to have explained to me-
DMZ- Demilitarized Zone - a space that 2 or more countries have agreed to not move units into. If one country moves into a DMZ'd space, that usually means war.

NAP- Non-Aggression Pact. An agreement between two countries to not attack each other, but not be allies either for the time being.

Draw: A failure of ambition.
Survive: A failure of talent.
Defeat: An utter failure.
DMZ: An amusing lie to fool the gullible.
NAP: An alliance where you can't quite force yourself to work with the bastard.
Ally: An enemy who can be manipulated into fighting another enemy.
WTO: A version of the game in which you win by crushing your enemies and soloing.
PPSC: A version of the game in which you win by crushing your enemies and soloing.

Intentional Bounce - Purposely make two units move to the same spot to prevent a single enemy unit from moving there or 'bouncing' as well. (Someone can probably explain that one a little better!)
Unwanted Support - Support that causes a unit to enter a territory when the desired effect was a bounce (see Intentional Bounce).
Halt (2077 D)
05 Aug 14 UTC
Eog statement - a post in the gloval chat or the forum that appears at the conclusion of a game where players either offer congratulatory remarks or sling insults at each other
Self Bounce - Two units bouncing belonging to the same power. See Intentional Bounce.

Tap - an attack intended to cut support only, not take the territory in question.
Halt (2077 D)
06 Aug 14 UTC
Malicious Support - similar to Unwanted support, except the intent of the supporting (third party) is to create increased friction between two parties which agreed to bounce, in the hopes of disrupting an alliance

Diplomacy on the Radio
I'm listening to an episode of the radio program "This American Life" about Diplomacy. Featuring the same guy who recently wrote the Diplomacy article on Grantland. Not sure if it's the current episode or a repeat, but I figured I'd mention it here for those interested. Should be available on podcast now or soon.

Oli, thank you for the color-blindness interface.
I have protonapia and this is awesome. That plus labeling the countries speaking global and the interactive map males it so much better and less confusing... Even on the phone (interactive doesn't let me interact but still shows what I ordered using the drop down).
