BENCHMARK GB TOURNAMENT
Hi all, I’d like to check if there's some interest for this 20-players Tournament idea.
In case we got a few people less or many people more, I could change within a few days the structure to adapt it to the new number, but the ideal number would be 20. More to follow.

The Reconquista circa 1030? A diplomacy variant
I was just reading about the Spanish inquisition and it occured to me that an interesting time period would be the Spanish reconquista. After a google search I found this map:

Potential Fix for Convoy Orders
Is there a way to fix convoy orders to where there is a set of blue lines leading from the convoyed armies' location, to each of the convoying fleets, to the end location, rather than a red move order directly to the destination with connecting blue lines from the fleets

Country assignment
I do not know how many of you played on the "diplomacy judges" of old...

But I was wondering if someone might be interested in introducing the semi-random country assignment that they used, and whether it's doable from the point of view of the code.

It’s been more than one year since I played my last full-press game.
Well… I want to start another one in order to check if all those gunboats made me forget how to play diplomacy.

I played as the trolls (Light Green, upper-left corner of the map). Why didn't my fleet bounce the Pirates from the High Seas (Autumn, 1)?

Am I misunderstanding something?

"Draw" games?
How to end a game in a multi-player draw? Is it possible on this site? If so, where is it documented. Is there a way to grant "proxy" to another player for any period of time? Where would that be documented? Is that enough questions for one post?

What happened??
Decima Legio (1987 D)

There used to be an Italian satellite of webdiplomacy.net.
I'm writing "used to be" because the site is apparently down since October.
Not a great site like this, with various issues to be honest.

However, considering that Diplomacy is really unpopular in my country, it was great to have an Italian point of reference on the web, where Italians could familiarize with this hobby.

Some of the Italian members have migrated here at Vdip in the meanwhile.
Out of curiosity, what happened?

The Italian Diplomacy site is down sice October 1st 2014 and the Administrators of the site haven't solved the problem (or they don't want solve it).
I wrote to the Adms of the international site and this was their answer:
"Hi Maucat,

Basically you need to get some hosting, set up webDiplomacy on it, then enable the Italian translation for it. Then it's just a matter of getting the Italian players to move over.

If getting hosting is something you can't do let me know and we might be able to figure something out, but it'll take a while. The best bet in such a case might be to try and get in touch with the original Italian webDip site owner.

Regards,
Kestas"

I asked to the italian Adms a lot of time to do something to restore the site but without positive answer. They seem only interested in live game of the Italian and European championship (game limited to the 1907 moves-very noisy games).
I hope that someone can do something to help them to reactived the site or to take from them the control of the site.

It's a bit strange that this site disappeared that fast.
I think the owner of the site paid kestas to add language support to the webdip-code.

I had a discussion with one of their Admins, 3 years ago or so, and yes he confirmed they they only care about FtF competitions. They kept the site just like a showcase on the internet for the AID (Italian Diplomacy Association) and this is why they have never cared much about fixing bugs, crashes, mislinked borders etc.
So I told them that when the shop-window sucks nobody gets into the shop, so making it a better site - or at least a normally working site - could have been very useful both for the AID and for the online players.
Unfortunately looks like they have (or they *had*, likely) only one person with the required skills to run the technical side of the site, and it was also a very busy person. This was the reason why fixing the link I was asking for "could take no less than 8-10 months, if it will be possible at all" (sic). Wow, really very busy.
I joined that site 6 months earlier, not because I planned to play Online-dip on such a poor site (I already loved vDip for such purpose), but because I wanted to learn things about that community and possibly join some of their FtF games on weekends. But after I got such a disappointing reply on that and on other things we talked about, I just completed my current games and left it for good. They just looked like a slapdash gang to me with a very rough organization.
Pity, I was very curious about AID. But I'm almost never bored on weekends, I can live without it.

tl;dr: I believe that the person taking care of that site is dead or missing and the site followed him.

No, they are alive and simply they aren't interested in managing the site. The italian players of Diplomacy are abandoned to themselves.
AID is a little association organizing very little tournaments of a boring variation of Diplomacy, it's leading to Death the Diplomacy in Italy.

Hello, i'm an italian member of the diplomacy association. i know Alex (the owner of the site) and i know what happened.

The problem is simple: their host made an upgrade to the software and their version of webdiplomacy stop runs 6-7 months ago. 1 years ago something similar happened for 6 more months of stop. The problem is what Guaroz told you, Alex, and other italian members, don't care about the online game and only think to make their own f2f tournament. Who cares about the site haven't the skills to fix these kinds of problems and can only try to convince the owner to handle it.

I know that there is an italian group, bored of waiting probably, that start a new site to play diplomacy and used vdiplomacy as base (that i think is better than standard one).

We can only wait and see what will happen.

I'm on italian site from the middle of 2011 and from that date until October 1st 2014 there was only short interruption of maximum 2/3 days, no long interruptions.
I think that without a working site their f2f tournaments will quickly fell to under 10 players but Alex & co. will be happy to win them and be proud to be italian champions of 1907 Diplomacy...!!!
Rowena (1057 D)

you probably have forgotten the start of 2014 where the domain exipired and, after Alex refuses to renew it, the host delete the site. Only after 4-5 months sameone convinced Alex to pay again and make the site available.

even if i like to play the 1907 variant i agree with you with most of your arguments, but i have to invite you to join us and make some costructive proposal to improve the diplomacy's hobby in italy.

I speak no Italian whatsoever but I could host for a discount, just covering my own expenses.
Guess that isn't the problem though?

Hey, Butterhead
So Texas is seemingly looking hard only at Shaka Smart. Gregg Marshall from Wichita State is seemingly not being looked at in the same way. For all of the hoopla over the Final Four run, do you have any insight as to why Shaka Smart has never won a conference title in either the Colonial or a gutted Atlantic 10?

You should do well at this. I got 16 out of 18 and would have gotten about 3 out of 18 if I'd never played Diplomacy.
