In the code.
Did some changes how the adjucation works. I really hate all adjucation-releated code, but I did some changes to the pirates variant, so I decided to take a look at the Imperium variant again. And I found some issues.
Should all work now. But I'm not 100% sure... :-)

Do you need a player for the inaugural game?
If the issues were river related, I suspect we will know soon. It's already getting interesting.
It's still got problems. A supported attack across the river should only have attacked with strength of 1 and not dislodged the unit there.

Found another one. I'll PM Oli.
IT seems unsupported units can no longer cross the river even if the territory they are entering is unoccupied. So basically all but two SCs are inaccessible from the start of the game and once those two are owned, the game is done.

Ok. Problem found.
At first I gave every attacking unit +2 and while crossing a river only +1. This caused a problem with supported units across a river in an occupied territory. Next try was to lower the attac by 1, but an empty territory is considered tonhave a strength of 0. So a 7nit cross8ng a river has 0 strength and can’t dislodge an empty territory with a hold of 0.
Now I have 2 more options. Try to set empty territories to -1, or a holding unit to 2 (with all attacks not crossing a river set to 2 too....
Will code this at the weekend again.

Found another (easy) solution.
If because of a river-move the attack-value is "0", I set the attack to 0.5. This fails against all other units/moves, but not against an empty territory.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but problems with the adjudicator are really hard to fix and require a lot of "thinking outside the box". And usually there are no error-messages that give a clue about the problem.

The game bugged a bit: it asks me for orders (destroy units) but I cannot input them at all since I count as "eliminated".

Cross river at .5 str turns to 1.5 when supported (by a unit on the right side of the river). So it seems it still does not cover all possibilities. What about we playtest this variant without the river rule? We could do it in diplolab...

@CCR: This should not happen at all. Do you have a game with this error?

The attack-strength include all supports. Than the adjudicator subtracts 1, and only if this is "0" (so without any support) add the 0.5. If it's not working this way I need to rethink this solution again.

The other solution would have been to set the territory to -.5 with a holding unit having a 1.5 strength That results in empty territories have strength -.5 and territories with units having strength 1. From there, standard holds and adjustment for rivers work perfectly.
Or set attacks at 1.5, holds/standard defense at 1.5 and supports at 1. It serves the same purpose.
Byt the way, all of those also work for the standard game so could be implemented in the core engine to allow for strength reduction in any variant.

I try not to mess too much with the standard code, as the variants would stop working on other installations. Also it's easy to merge new web dip-code back here if we don't change that much.
Changing all holds to 1.5 is harder than it sounds. A lot of code needs to be touched to change this by a variant. My solution is much cleaner and easier to manage.
You know the code better than me, of course. I was just providing an alternative logic that would "meet the need" so to speak.

obsolete Sengoku variant
Hi all, designer of Sengoku here. I would love to get the latest version of Sengoku in use on this system, as it is much more balanced. Found here: http://dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Sengoku
Even if the DP system, can't be used, the version at http://nairenvorbeck.angelfire.com/ is still better than the one in use currently. Poor Mori needs a fair chance :-) Anyone willing/able to help me get these implemented?

1 v 1 games on variant maps
I am not a coder (sic) so I was wondering how hard is/was it to code 1 v 1 games? Is it reasonable to think that variant maps (Modern, Ancient Med, etc) could be set up to create 1 v 1 games? The idea of having a larger group of countries to play against each other is intriguing. I just don't know if it possible, or doable.

How old school are you?
I am not very tech savvy so forgive me. I think I started dip on some RSS pages using Netscape at work in maybe 1996(?) does that make sense? All email based through Judges. What were they called? USDJ or something. I remember FROG but they all spoke French. Haha. I used to stand outside my office in the snow smoking a cig with a hand drawn map with about 100 crossing out for each phase using coloured pens. Ah web based interactive maps?!?! Luxury!!!

New Maps
I'm super new to the site and I was curious how new maps were made and/or submitted. I noticed a lot of the maps look a bit old and it got me thinking about what it would take to create a higher resolution version of a game map. Are there certain file formats a map must be in or is this all a responsibility for site admins only? Thanks!

Imperium Diplomacy
Under the variants, I noticed one called Imperium Diplomacy, but was not able to create a game using this variant. Is it a discontinued variant, or under a different name? It looks like an interesting one, especially the beginning turns.

Custom phase bug
This might be better in the Mods section, but I thouht I'd post here first to see if other users have any input.

I'm trying to create a new game with a custom phase length. When I select "Custom" from the drop-down menu, nothing happens. However, when I select "2 days, 2 hours", I've given the option to input a phase length. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

WWII Update Errors
Hello, I am currently in a game of WWII and I was just informed that it has been updated, "fixing" problems with dual coasts. This supposedly means that Palestine now has two coasts. However, I have a fleet in the Red Sea and it can no longer move to Palestine! Please fix?

Tactics
In year one when you just meeting everyone, maybe there anonymous but for sure you don't know any of them. How do you know who to trust?
They can be lying through their teeth and text doesn't show tone of voice or eye contact so you have no idea. If you believe them they may stab you. If you don't you venture into a DMZ and piss them off. Ask around to others and you get rumors or nothing. This game seems so much better suited to face to face.

Classic Mini-Tourney - Is there interest?
I thought about making a mini-tourney - comprising a single game - using a similar scheme to most Face-to-Face scoring systems.

Basically it'll be a Classic game, running until Fall 1907 and a PPSC structure. The bet would be 100 points - for a ultimate pot worth 700 points.

Unable to enter certain orders. How to contact GM
Can someone help. I am playing one of the odder variants. New for me. I’ve read the variant page repeatedly and seems I ought to be able to enter a certain order. But it’s not available as an option. (Maybe I’m missing something. Or maybe a bug). Emailed the mods. But how do I contact GameMaster min a gunboat game?
