Après le piratage de 18centres et le bug définitif de DOL, les joueurs français de diplomacy sont vraiment à la rue ! Je crée donc un post sur ce site pour se retrouver entre francophones....

Nuclear strike option
In several Diplomacy game variants we have the Nuclear strike rule which allows any player to destroy any (or only foe's - I don't remember exactly) unit once in a game.

Where is kaner?
We have had to Extend a game because kaner never showed up after joining. Brisbanites might want to check to see whether he may be trapped under a refrigerator as a result of a cookie jar related accident. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQe0OWZvwWo

Have you ever teach people to play Diplomacy?
My 8-year-old son knows that I play Diplomacy and sometimes even watches the situation progress in my games, but only today I registered him and explaine the rules of the game. He plays chess well, so I think there will be no problems with that.

Tournament: Cold War II
Welcome to the sequel to 2018’s Cold War tournament. Has it really been two years? Let’s get started.

Chess doesn't take that time with way more combinations. I think a tournament should be setup to move faster personally. People can play private matches at whatever speed they want. That being said, I'm happy for any Cold War tournament and am very happy AE has organized.
one man's psyche does play a role in the speed of submitting orders. I personally take it slow if im losing, but force myself to walk to my death in a completely lost position. A bit similar to my current game against bsiper, where i take it slow since im at a disadvantageous position, and would need a second opinion to future-me

offtopic, but chess can take a lot of time, especially correspondence chess. depending on time controls, games can last just as long as diplomacy games. even in face to face tournaments, matches are played out over days

i wish there were more CW players in general. often, people unfamiliar with the map play suboptimal moves, so i win relatively easily
^ That's me right there, a person unfamiliar with the map who will very likely play suboptimal moves. That's why I did not join the tourney although the map kinda looks fun.

Hope you guys won't mind me chiming in -
In press games I almost never ready my orders, unless I am 100% sure that there is nothing left to discuss;
In gunboat I seldom ready my orders because I like to write down preliminary orders and then reconsider my predictions on others' moves and revisit my own moves after a break. It feels like I will discover my potential mistakes just like how you can proof-read your own writing more effectively only after leaving it aside for a while.

@umble I think you missed my point. I was talking about what I think is the fun part of playing. Figuring out the best moves is the fun part. Rushing it just means you get less of the fun. Also, I'm not sure what you put into the words 'figure out,' but most players wouldn't figure out a good - let alone excellent - set of orders even if you gave them a week.

@mittag. True, but I'd think tournament players are a cut above or least should be. Again though, it's the retreats and builds that are head scratchers.

Insert meme of a person wasting away to a skeleton. I have a feeling it'll be well into September before this finals happens. My sneaking suspicion is the other side is hoping I'll die, and they'll win by default. I'm in excellent health though so hurry up and finish these games lol.

I just conceded my games to Mittag.

In this period I've devoted much time to the 'Nexus' Tournament. To cut it short, CW has taken a back seat. I kept forgetting about the games and I missed the two deadlines.

I fear it is one of those moment when one needs to take a break.

Best of luck for the finals @Mittag @Umble

PS: A special thanks to Mittag for his patience and his sportmanship.
After my first NMR, he agreed to restart despite his totally dominant position.

And so ends the Cold War tournament. Thanks to Mittag for a good game. Also thank you to Argentinean Empire for organizing wherever you might be.

Considering bsiper brought the Nexus crown to vDip before, I'm happy to take this crown back to Nexus and unite the two together :).

Live messaging Diplomacy
Hello everyone, I would like to play a standard game of diplomacy, but exchange social network accounts of one network all players are in (preferentially Signal, but fb does the job as well) in order to be able to have Live communication and if wished, even calls. Could make things more immersive. 1 ½ days per phase. Anyone interested?

Flash is Dead, Statistics page is Broken
Now that flash is dead, that statistics page is missing the graphs. Is the something in the works to get this fixed?

(it also just makes getting to the page difficult, as Vdip keeps asking for flash, and you have to say no multiple times before you can access the page)
