Is there a new mobile website?
It looks great, but could I turn it off? I use a BlackBerry Passport, which has a nice big screen and doesn't need it.

@Oli the news integrated into the game overview are cool, but I would prefer them to be above the game, not below. So that you always know what happened lately.

...having them in the games section really doesn't help; since that's sorted by 'stuff that's coming up soon', not 'stuff that just occurred'.

Entirely defeats the purpose of having such notifications visible on the home page.

Yeah that bothers me as well. How about having game notifications at the top not for unreadied games, but for games where a new phase has been progressed?

Oh I see them now. Yes, that's not useful for me. I am appreciating the experimentation though, but the top thing for me is to see the notifications since I last logged in at a glance.

Ya, I personally like the game notifications separate. A little easier to see what happens, esp when you are playing multiple games/tournaments. PMs from months ago aren't really relevant to be front and center. No biggie either way, though. I am good as is.
Why not filter PMs to show only the last N days where N is either the last time the person logged in or 2 days, whichever is greater. Do the same with game notifications but put them *first*, ahead of PMs.

Okay, here's my thought on the notifications being moved:

A game of mine just ended. I won, but did not see any notifications about this. I would (personally) prefer to see when a game of which I am a part ends, so that I have a cause to associate with my change in vPoints.

But the cutting down on the general message overload sure is nice. :)
That's a very good point. You won't see the win notification because the game is no longer active. That is a real show stopper there.

If it was the old forum column, I'd have replied here :)
I only read the thread title - I didn't have a clue on trending threads because of the fixed number of msgs shown -

Just to note, the 'force desktop site' option in the settings menu does not remotely resemble the option in browser settings, at least in Chrome, to the point of being even less usable than the mobile version.

If you select "force desktop" it will not load the "mobile" code at all. It's just like it was before. You just get the "old" site without the special "mobile"-CSS.

I expect the mobile version as a powerful tool to bring in new players. Most folks who refuse vDip and go for apps or Backstabbr argue that the lack of mobile-friendly visuals was critical.

@Oli, any hope we can push towards the final frontier - push notifications?

Oli - what I was saying is that what is displayed is materially different between the "Always use desktop-version (even on mobile):" site setting, and the "Request desktop site" option available in browser.

Not sure why, but when using the on-site option, the forum/notices/games columns do not remotely sync up with the 'highlighted' background width, while the top links and non-readied game buttons are forced to a new line at about the halfway point of the 'notices' column (incidentally splitting "New Game" between lines).

It's definitely quite distinct from the in-browser option, which accurately presents the site in the same manner as on desktop.

I don't think that what I'm seeing is as bad as what mouse sees, but I also noticed that the desktop website seems different now on my phone. I can't say for certain since the browser setting doesn't work on vDip for me so I have nothing to compare. When I use the desktop version of the website on my phone now, for example, the "Home", "Forum" and "Games" hyperlinks at the top of the page are mostly covered by the "vDiplomacy" logo; I don't remember that happening before the mobile website was introduced.

Oli: I've been using the mobile website. I think it would make sense to move the army/fleet icons in the drop-down order interface to the first line in each order. Right now they are centered and it's pretty difficult to follow where the orders for one unit end and the orders for the next unit begin.

I think it's not easy to move the unit-icon on mobile. But I might alternate the background-color for each order. This way it should be easier to keep the orders apart.

Mafia II vdip signup

Game set up - NMR
I want to set a game so that it never processes a turn with out orders. I think that is setting “Turn” = 0.
But if I set “Delay”= 2 does that mean a two day/phase pause before that player is kicked? Or is he kicked immediately and there are 2 days for a replacement to appear. In the latter case what happens after the 2 days?

obsolete Sengoku variant

Even if the DP system, can't be used, the version at http://nairenvorbeck.angelfire.com/ is still better than the one in use currently. Poor Mori needs a fair chance :-) Anyone willing/able to help me get these implemented?

1 v 1 games on variant maps
I am not a coder (sic) so I was wondering how hard is/was it to code 1 v 1 games? Is it reasonable to think that variant maps (Modern, Ancient Med, etc) could be set up to create 1 v 1 games? The idea of having a larger group of countries to play against each other is intriguing. I just don't know if it possible, or doable.

How old school are you?
I am not very tech savvy so forgive me. I think I started dip on some RSS pages using Netscape at work in maybe 1996(?) does that make sense? All email based through Judges. What were they called? USDJ or something. I remember FROG but they all spoke French. Haha. I used to stand outside my office in the snow smoking a cig with a hand drawn map with about 100 crossing out for each phase using coloured pens. Ah web based interactive maps?!?! Luxury!!!

Notices
The notices on my front page are all jumbled up in a random order. PMs from weeks ago are at the top, and some of my game messages from the past day or two are lower down. Is anyone else noticing this?

New Maps
I'm super new to the site and I was curious how new maps were made and/or submitted. I noticed a lot of the maps look a bit old and it got me thinking about what it would take to create a higher resolution version of a game map. Are there certain file formats a map must be in or is this all a responsibility for site admins only? Thanks!

Imperium Diplomacy
Under the variants, I noticed one called Imperium Diplomacy, but was not able to create a game using this variant. Is it a discontinued variant, or under a different name? It looks like an interesting one, especially the beginning turns.

Custom phase bug
This might be better in the Mods section, but I thouht I'd post here first to see if other users have any input.

I'm trying to create a new game with a custom phase length. When I select "Custom" from the drop-down menu, nothing happens. However, when I select "2 days, 2 hours", I've given the option to input a phase length. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

WWII Update Errors
Hello, I am currently in a game of WWII and I was just informed that it has been updated, "fixing" problems with dual coasts. This supposedly means that Palestine now has two coasts. However, I have a fleet in the Red Sea and it can no longer move to Palestine! Please fix?
