I didn't really know what to do with myself after taking over because the previous player had decided almost only armies in Africa was the best way to build their units.

Nicely played. :-) England was a tough takeover position - unfortunately for me France kept trying to kill me until I managed to eke out some tactical victories, and by then it was a bit too late to stop Spain...
Portugal: Yeah, bit of a head scratcher position, that!
