24 Oct 16 UTC Autumn, 2003: GameMaster: Ukraine voted for a Draw. If everyone votes Draw the game will end and the points are split equally among all the surviving players, regardless of how many supply centers each player has.
18 Nov 16 UTC Good game all. A bit disappointed I could not push on a bit further!
18 Nov 16 UTC Good game! Well-played, tantrumizer. Thanks Captain and tobi for the peace and support. We had an epic struggle going on, bozo, and as big yellow increasingly loomed behind me I thought I'd be squeezed out...Britain hit you just in time to save me, but tip of the cap to you for the game-within-the-game.
18 Nov 16 UTC Congrats to everyone in the draw!
19 Nov 16 UTC I was expecting Britain to squash Italy with me and hope to still come out with the draw. Did not happen. I did not expect the surprise attack on Polish Denmark though!
19 Nov 16 UTC I enjoyed that Ukraine managed to last 18 seasons with 1 unit.
19 Nov 16 UTC Good game!

I was going to attack Italy if you backed off a bit, Tantrum. I kept the armies adjacent to Lyon and Mar to try to signal that - with you right up on the border, though, there was too much of a chance that you would solo, since the Italian units would start acting as proxy units for you at that point.

Also, the constant Polish attacks on my northern centers made me think he might also throw the game if I tried to narrow the draw. I took Denmark because it would force disband one northern fleet, which Poland shouldn't need, and let me build a unit to potentially convoy into Piedmont or Monaco, but after that he never stopped trying to attack me so I guess he didn't like me getting rid of one of his fleets :D

I was also thinking about killing Russia, but I realised he had far too much of an ability to throw, since the Polish line near Moscow was pretty thin and it would take me a long time to get there.

Good game all! Was great fun.
19 Nov 16 UTC Oh yes, also - I decided at the start of this game that I would focus on keeping Gibraltar, since as a true Englishman I believe it should stay British. Allying France and splitting my units that much was a strategy I'd never tried before, and it turned out to be great fun and reasonably effective.
19 Nov 16 UTC Mutter grumble... Italian not helping against Turkish ascendancy... Mutter grumble...
19 Nov 16 UTC lol I didn't enjoy the one unit stand :(
20 Nov 16 UTC Although I've basically been holding 1/2 of the game, I can't say that I didn't enjoy it.

As Russia in a ModernII gunboat, it seemed to me so "natural" to take on Ukraine that I could't avoid to try it. Kharkov is right halfway between Moscow and Rostov... sorry Ukr, the openings in gunboats are like flipping a coin, and sometimes, no matter how good you are, there's really nothing you can do.
Everything seemed perfect to me in the opening: no standoff with Turkey in Georgia, an entente with Poland in Bielorussia, a flirt with UK on Norway.
Then Poland, short of enemies, suddenly attacked me in year 2 (naively I was expecting him to attack Germany), and I had to pull back.
In a matter of two years Turkey and UK took advantage of the situation and started to consume my possessions.

Fortunately I managed to make it too difficult to Poland, and afetr some years of sturggle, he had to cooperate with me ( given the rising power of UK to the west and Turkey to the south-east). It's been nice to stop UK on the shores of Sweden together with Poland.

My space of maneuver relentlessly narrowed year by year, but eventually I could hold a decent position and I could weight enough to be part of the draw.
