14 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1901: BobRoss (Gamedirector): (BobRoss): Welcome to the 3rd FoW 7x7 Tournament!

1st Balkans 1860 7x7 Tournament - Unrated.

Important rules to remember:
- No discussion of these games in the tournament forum
- Preferably ready up as soon as possible (especially in retreat and build phases).
- If due to unforeseen circumstances, one would require a necessary extension - please drop me a PM rather than an 'extend' vote in the games. This is to safeguard anonymity in the games itself.

Most importantly, have fun!
14 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1901: BobRoss (Gamedirector): (BobRoss): ^Apologies for the accidental "1st Balkans 1860 7x7 Tournament.." I copied part of my message of another tourney that has been played before.
15 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1901: Info: This is a choose your country game.
16 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1901: BobRoss (Gamedirector): General Remark:

Unfortunately the function to see the number of saves and ready's per turn has disappeared in FoW. Yet, i'd like to remind everyone about the honorable agreement to ready up as soon as possible.
10 Apr 18 UTC Autumn, 1906: BobRoss (Gamedirector): General Remark:

All 7 games will be paused shortly due to a small yet important discussion point on which I do not want to make a sole decision (and it has been brought to my attention by one of the participants). This discussion point is whether 'Concede' votes are allowed in this tournament as a diplomatic means. I'd like for all of you to inform me whether you consider these votes problematic or not in the Tournament discussion thread. Once we have found an agreement on this, I will unpause all games. I hope you understand and respect my decision to temporarily pause the tournament.
11 Apr 18 UTC Autumn, 1906: BobRoss (Gamedirector): General Remark:

All games will continue as of this moment. Thanks again for all the input and swift voting.
02 May 18 UTC Fast win! I tried to prop up Italy and Germany as much as I could but the rise of Austria was too quick.
02 May 18 UTC Yeah he was all over me like a rash! Not much fun as Russia when you are hit early by England Austria and Germany at the same time. Oh well.
02 May 18 UTC Congratulations d-ice, excellent Austrian victory ;-)

I still have no idea how to play England. My start was quite solid this time but giving too much space to France cost me greatly again. I find it so extremely difficult how to get a proper foothold with this empire.
02 May 18 UTC As France, I almost always leave England alone for the first 3-4 years at least, but that is based on the usual leaving of English Channel vacant in 1901. Once you invaded there, it was on!
02 May 18 UTC FoW is really a coincidental game. I had a great start with Italy going for the Lepanto while Germany (and England apparently, didn't know that at the time) attacked Russia. I was worried that once Turkey was eliminated Italy would attack me, and that pretty much happened. My game would probably have stalled right there and then had it not been for the timely French attack into Italy. I decided to seize control over the Italian colony in Turkey but not pursue the attack on the peninsula just yet out of fear for too quick French gains. The plan worked well as history tells, but mostly thanks to coincidences. With only partial information, luck is more important than strategy.

Thanks all for allowing me to steal a win as Austria (it was really close in FoW2, so this feels like revenge). It's a nice power to play in FoW assuming you survive the first critical years.
02 May 18 UTC I should add that I didn't expect to win after the 1910-results came in. To me it looked like Germany and France had settled their differences and went for the stalemate, which at the time was still quite possible although I know it's hard to coordinate to take back StP and defend Nap+Rom in gunboat and fog...
02 May 18 UTC Well done d-ice. It was certainly close in the north and I think given a couple more turns, we could have pushed you back with some level of coordination. France's turn on me in 1911 really screwed all chances to stalemate so I was content to leave the game to Austria. Certainly an impressive country to win with!
