09 Oct 19 UTC | Spring, 1960: Hello there |
09 Oct 19 UTC | Spring, 1960: I'm really bad at 1v1 variants so this is me trying to get better |
09 Oct 19 UTC | Spring, 1960: no worries. 1v1 is my kind of schtick. you could look at my 1v1 games history for some ideas |
09 Oct 19 UTC | Autumn, 1960: Interesting start to all this |
09 Oct 19 UTC | Autumn, 1960: indeed |
09 Oct 19 UTC | Spring, 1961: I'm the type of person who would rather try interesting moves I come up with instead of maybe the more conventional plays, even if it costs me a game every now and then. |
09 Oct 19 UTC | Autumn, 1961: Oof. |
09 Oct 19 UTC | Spring, 1962: I like some of my positions, but you have a good 2 unit lead. |
09 Oct 19 UTC | Spring, 1963: Yup, I'm going to lose. I think my initial strategy was too long-term. You won out in the short-term, got more units as a result, and are using them well. |
10 Oct 19 UTC | Last round before you win. :) |
10 Oct 19 UTC | Well played! |
10 Oct 19 UTC | Any specific moves I made that cost me the game? |
10 Oct 19 UTC | gg i personally would build an army in Istanbul in the first year. the army can attack and defend, while your fleet can grab Egypt. you cut the army in NY and convoy the army in Toronto |
10 Oct 19 UTC | in terms of opening, i think fleet Australia-Indian Ocean-bounce in India is optimal. USSR plays better with more builds in the first year. a typical bounce opening yields 3 builds instead of 4 in other openings. it also delays the army so it reaches Iran later. the 2nd year, my Indian Ocean fleet typically goes to Indonesia |
10 Oct 19 UTC | Interesting. Why is it better to bounce in India than claim Japan? You're right on that, but I often feel like if I don't at least try to contest the Pacific, NATO loses. |
10 Oct 19 UTC | That's true that the more builds we each get, the better USSR will do as their builds are easier to turn into centers. Mine are a bit further away. |
10 Oct 19 UTC | well, if you bounce in India (and in Sweden) in year 1, we get 3 builds. NATO typically builds in London, Istanbul, and Australia. USSR has 5 good home centers to build from, but with a double bounce opening, they have to choose where to focus their attention. so they often build 1 or even 0 fleet in Asia in such circumstances. also, fleet in Panama will get there in year 2. that's why i move my fleet from Indian Ocean to Indonesia in year 2 after bouncing in year 1, so we are temporarily at equal forces in the Pacific. i mentioned it earlier, by delaying the army from taking India, it relieves some pressure in Istanbul down the road |
10 Oct 19 UTC | Good thinking! Yes Istanbul fell too quickly in this game |
