I must say, I am relatively new to cold war, so could you give me some tips in how to play this variant, since I can't find any guides anywhere.
I see the merits of the openings, but beyond that, I am quite lost.

This a very sharp variant... You start loosing when your last unit in Asia was killed freeing a lot of USSR units...and when your fleet in Indian Ocean went in Arabian Sea. Don't concentrate on mantaining SCs, often an exchange is better than a static defense. Your strategy in Europe took a lot of units leaving America open to a counterattack.
