11 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, the start of the battle: Ok, so we try again. Flagship are NOT on supply centres, so can be dislodged by frigates... thus need to keep a ship adjacent to them at all times to secure them. ok...
These rules are confusing which is why I've never played this map before.
11 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, the start of the battle: you are correct about flagships. flagships are not supply centers (hence why you have two destroys the fall of year 1).

My major grip with this variant is the colors. I'm not colorblind, but it can be somewhat frustrating to keep track of all the galleys in the midgame
11 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, half an hour after the start of the battle: Yeah I can see that... the colours are not very strongly presented...
11 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 1 hour and a half after the start of the battle: A frigate on its own cannot dislodge a flagship I assume, so you'd need to gang up 2 on 1 flagship to shift it, and a single galley or frigate supporting that flagship would prevent it being dislodged. So, this would mean that your 2 frigates acting so far ahead of the lines are only effective as skirmishers and pose no real threat unless I leave a flagship entirely isolated... is that about right?
11 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 1 hour and a half after the start of the battle: Yea that is about right. IMO frigates most useful in center of board, or for early sneak attack if other player is too ambitious

I’ve only played 5 or 6 games tho so I’m not familiar with frigate meta
12 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 2 hours and a half after the start of the battle: Yeah I can see how frigates are good for harrassing and blocking but if they cannot touch a supply centre, then their uses are limited.

Why have you stopped putting in orders for the Duo game?
12 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 2 hours and a half after the start of the battle: Sorry I was on a hike and just briefly entering orders here and there lol
12 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 3 hours and a half after the start of the battle: oh man...
13 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 4 hours after the start of the battle: Have you ever played Versailles on Playdip? I feel like you’d be a big fan of that variant
13 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 4 hours after the start of the battle: I only play on this site, no other. This one is addictive enough.
13 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 4 hours after the start of the battle: But I just looked at PlayDip. It appears all their games are based on the classic Dip map and I got super bored with that map a long time ago. Thats why I like this site.
13 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 4 hours after the start of the battle: You’re right Vdip is best. I’ve stopped playing over there except Versailles.

The only thing Playdip has that is worth joining their site is the Versailles variant. The map is pretty closer to 1900 variant map, but the unique thing is that for the 7 players, there are 7 major and 7 minor nations. Each major gets an anonymous minor. Lots of guessing over who controls which minor.

13 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 4 hours and a half after the start of the battle: this is a game forming up if you're interested. I'm not in that game; I'm already playing a Versailles game rn

16 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 6 hours and a half after the start of the battle: I confess I'm just bored with this game. I've obviously made the wrong start from the get go, and I'm not able to break through a line where I'm massively outnumbered. I'll just let you win from here.
16 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 7 hours after the start of the battle: I'm fine with whatever is your preference. I've actually never played one of these games into the endgame lol
16 May 22 UTC 7 October 1571, 7 hours after the start of the battle: It seems like a real slog and I started too cautiously, based on too aggressive in the first game. Once I saw that you had taken the centre, i knew there was nothing I could do to break through that... so it just turns into a slow slog backwards.
18 May 22 UTC GameMaster: Ottoman Empire voted for a Concede. If everyone (but one) votes concede the game will end and the player _not_ voting Concede will get all the points. Everybody else will get a defeat.
18 May 22 UTC Gg
18 May 22 UTC No, not really. I put up no challenge at all. Obviously, the first abbreviated game I went out too hard, not realizing how easily dislodged flagships could be, in the second I responded too cautiously and thus never got going. The game devolved down into dull slogging and just was boring. Thanks for the game, but I won't play this map again.
18 May 22 UTC This is the fifth or sixth time I’ve played this map and honestly I think I’m done. Most games are decided pretty early on, usually based on some chance move decisions. I still think the Civil War variant is the best one V1
