Blocking
I recently attempted to join a game but was 'blocked' from doing so. Why is it possible for one player to be able to block another without that other player from knowing why? Strikes a little of exclusion / bullying to me. Thoughts?

New gamecreation feature: SO not process on specific days of the week...
There is a new feature available in gamecreation:
If you do not want this game to process on specific days of the week, then check the appropriate day or days to restrict processing.
If a current phase falls on any of the selected days it will be extended by 24 hours until a day that is available for processing. However if all players 'ready' their orders the game will process as usual regardless of whether or not the extended 24 hours has been reached.
Days are processed according to standard CET time.

I can't start a new game. When I try to start one, I get the following message:

@pyrhos

As steephie said, it probably won't ever be coded into Vdip. This is for multiple reasons. First, there are 4 types of units (armies, fleets, wings, nukes), and IIRC, vdip is only coded for 2 types of units. I seem to remember Oli saying at some point that recoding it for 3 or 4 would be a LOT of work as it would overhaul everything. Could be wrong with that though.

Second, it's a "coalition" victory game. It is not won by conquering the entire board, but rather, by accumulating the required amount of votes depending on the "sizes" of your 3 coalition members. Big powers require more votes than small starting powers.

Finally, there's a lot of side things like UN peacekeeping, and terrorism, and in this game, pirates, that would be a headache to try to code it all in I imagine.

If someone DID find a way to code it, I'd bow before their skills :D

As an aside, I'm UK. Feel free to message me fellow vdippers!
pyrhos (1268 D)

That's a lot of work yes. Thanks I didn't relies it. Would be awesome if someone did code it

SuperAnt (983 D)

Haha, welcome to the global game! Every unit matters in a ridiculous number of ways.

Pyrrhos, I can still fit up to three new players without difficulty. You will be starting at a disadvantage because the others have started communicating with each other. But the game only started 21 hours ago and there is another week left in the first deadline, plenty of time!

out of interest - what do the red-stared (I'm assuming SCs) mean, and why are there two sea territories in red lettering... ?
kaner406 (2061 D Mod (B))
08 Feb 14 UTC
a quick re-look, more than 2 sea territories...
y2kjbk (1512 D)
08 Feb 14 UTC
A red star is a neutral supply center that gives a UN vote. You claim the UN vote once you control the center. The capitols with gold stars can be claimed for SC purposes, but the UN vote will only transfer once the nation that started in the capitol city has been eliminated.

Those differently colored territories are where the pirates can deploy, I believe.
Three spots in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans...

"Those differently colored territories are where the pirates can deploy, I believe."

... And here I was worrying that pirates would appear at the Japanese coast!

Anyone knows this for certain though?

I see 4 of those territories in the Pacific and Indian Ocean though.
bluecthulhu (1815 D)

From the Redscape webpage:

1. What exactly constitutes their designated zone into which they can place fleets?

For Pirate Atlantic, the red-lettered sea zones.

For Pirate-Indian, the green-lettered sea zones.

For Pirate-Pacific, the orange-lettered sea zones.
SuperAnt (983 D)

See, look at that. You guys are picking up the rules easy! :P
steephie22 (933 D)
08 Feb 14 UTC
I somehow simply assumed that the designated zones were all of the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean respectively :)
So you can contain the pirates by disbanding and taking everything they've got and staying on the three or 4 sea zones :)

Better to let them wander around with one fleet I suppose, but anyway :)

the red and yellow stars are a tiny bit confusing until you think about it a bit logically. The yellow stars are neutral votes, these centers give you immediate control of a UN vote, whoever owns those stars owns their votes.
But Red stars belong to starting powers, every player in the game has a vote until he is eliminated. Even if player A takes players B's center, if B is still alive, he has a UN vote! you can think of them as being in exile. Once the original player is ELIMINATED, then the star is just like the yellow stars (and should actually be recolored at that time) and whomever holds that star controls the associated vote.

One thing I should point out, this OFTEN happens...
You may very well see players join together and offer exile to another player. Remember this is also a political game and a large power may offer asylum to a smaller player, give up a center to the small guy in exchange for his vote. The small guy may do so in order to exact revenge on the one who attacked him. The player offering asylum may not mind losing a center if he has the vote not to mention he can probably get the pawn to move as he likes...why not? Votes towards the end will matter more than units. It's a delicate balance and if you embrace the politics, you may like it! Ignore the politics and you will likely fail miserably!

oh, and we can probably end now with an Indian win?
It's inevitable isn't it?
SuperAnt (983 D)
08 Feb 14 UTC
Tom, you have it backwards.

Everyone else - to be clear, gold stars are capitals, red stars start neutral. Y2kjbk's explanation above was correct.

What are the victory conditions for Fall of the American Empire: Civil War?
Richmond and Washington DC appear to be the capitals. In 1066, one must be in control of both their own capital and the capital of an enemy country. Are the rules similar for the Civil War variant, or are they just likely any other supply center?
