So, in this variant, there are 4 “types” of players. The King, his Knights, the Rebels, and the Traitor. Basically, there is always 1 king, and 1 Traitor (although in very large matches, two or three Traitors could be used). The Knights and Rebels are split evenly.
At the beginning of the game, roles are decided randomly (we’d have to use a neutral party). Only the King’s identity is known. Play ensues as normal, with the exception being that there are differing objectives for each team.
Objectives:
The King: Survive and kill all Rebels AND the Traitor
The Knights: Kill all Rebels AND the Traitor. Keep the King alive.
Rebels: Kill the King (without the only survivor being a Traitor).
Traitor: Death of ALL other players. Even other Traitors.
The game ends when the King is killed, or when all of the Rebels and Traitors are killed.
The intriguing thing about this game is that no one has to reveal their identities until they are eliminated. So Knights might be fighting other Knights, IF they believe that one of them is really a Rebel or Traitor. Meanwhile, the Traitor might actively work WITH the King against the Rebels until he can strike a crippling blow to the king. The possibilities are deadly!
So, who wants to give it a shot? I think it’d be an interesting change of pace for those of us who are used to simply analyzing tactics and “rational strategizing”. It adds a whole layer of paranoia that I know all us Dippers love!
