First of all, congratulations to Ruffhaus (Turkey) in winning this game. It's also interesting to see a game in which all of the global powers (Britain France and Holland, plus the biggest regional power (Russia) were defeated.

I need to step away...
Over the last couple of months, I have slowly been drifting away from Diplomacy. What used to be the excitement of coming online to see what has happened, has began do fade out. I realized that I have stopped thinking about the game with my head. That is why I must (temporarily) leave the game behind.

I see more CD's/NMR's on WebDip, I get much more frustrated with the range of talent between players on WebDip, and there's often even a language barrier when I play on WebDip.

Anyone happy to play against my 11 year old son?
Thinking about a EvT game, just so he can get use to the movement first. It will be on my account, probably a 2 day turnaround. If someone else has son or daughter who would also like to learn, then we could pitch them against each other. Let me know and I'll set something up.

Forum FAQ ;) or FAP
Over the year we exchanged ideas and raised problems in some interesting topics i.e. the default setting of Viking and WW4, improving the site, etc. I think it will be good to gather these links and have them either in the Help or some kind of a permanent forum post called FAProblems.

that way all this knowledge will not be lost in the wilderness. Plus, these are problems and puzzles that will frequently arise as more and more people encounter them.

Anyone up for a Known World 901 15x15 battle?
I've been wanting to play each power in this variant since I converted it to php, but mostly I have only played several different powers. The idea is simple: 15 games, 15 players, in each game you take control of a different power. Each game will be semi-anon (sign up below), 1 1/2 day phases, WTA, gunboat (this will dramatically cut down on the time commitment to messaging). So who's up for it?

Brainstorming about the extend-vote
What's your thoughts about the current state of this feature?

The idea of the extend is meant to prevent NRMs and spoil the game. Using this as a diplomatic tool is not an option. That's why the mods usually extend games on request. The 3/4-majority is just introduced, so a few minor powers couldn't abuse the system to take a game on hostage indefinitely (and cause more work for the mods again).

You need to enable this in your settings under features.
It works only for "Classic" and "Modern2" games.
Do not forget to hit "Save" after entering your orders.
I won't help if there are any problems with your games because of this feature. SO don't use this in important games.
Post your suggestions and ideas here or on the developer-forum. http://forum.webdiplomacy.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1147

Is it possible that it could be added to some of the larger maps? That's where I see the most use for it - when you have so many armies that it becomes hard to find them in the orders section.

Thanks for implementing this though - this was one of the things I missed from PlayDip :)
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))

It should be possible for large maps as well, if they won't use FoW. But the map has to be prepared for this. The sea-territories had to be colored with a unique color like the land-territories as it is made in FoW-variants.
Maps with scrollbars aren't supported yet, but I will surely implement this as well. Shouldn't be very hard.
But first the the normal interface has to be completed. Functions for Retreat- and Build-phase are still incomplete and some other things have to be overworked as well.
Oli (977 D Mod (P))
25 May 13 UTC
Would be cool if you could open the order-map as largemap in it's own window...
The scrollmap-variants just load the largemap in an iframe. So setting the orders in a special largemap (maybe small enough so it fits in a 1024 screen) would really help.
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))

Are the buttons displayed above the map?
If yes, are all steps made, which were described in the help (http://www.vdiplomacy.com/javascript/interactive/help.html)?
If yes, is the name of the selected territory shown in the white text-line above the map?

For the Modern II variant, when trying to move Edinburgh to Norwegian Sea, it does not recognize the territory. It says "cannot move to Barents Sea, please try convoy order" or something along those lines.

You folks play large games where you get into dead-lock for draw but you have to wait for several turns till the smaller nations get finished off. Do you folks get fed up with entering again and again for lots of support hold orders.

Would it be nice we have a magic button "Previous support hold". If your units, source and destination did not move, would it be nice the support hold orders get automatically restore for you?
mfarb (1338 D)
27 May 13 UTC
@Meep,

I do like that idea, I am going through this now (or, for those of you in my games, this is not intel, this is for forums sake haha)

MeepMeep (1111 D)
27 May 13 UTC
@mfarb oh, for you, I would suggest the dev to make an 'I WN' button. Push it, you get all the SC by fall phase and the WTA points.
mfarb (1338 D)
27 May 13 UTC
that would be nice.

but for your idea, what would you suggest for spring phases? (when the "previous move" was a build)
MeepMeep (1111 D)
27 May 13 UTC
A build include extra units or disbanded units. For extra units, there is no previous move to restore. For disbanded units, it's not considered for restoring previous support hold moves.

Only the existing units from previous phase would be under consideration:
_ Did I have a support hold issued from previous phase?
_ Is there still a unit in the destination of my support hold. (This is easy).
_ Is the unit in the destination the same unit as before. (This is not that hard, just check that location to see if there was any dislodge).

If I write the game engine for this game, I would make it in Object oriented. Every location is an object. Every unit is an object. Once the engine is done, you can create so quickly and easily many, many different map variant by simply state it's objects characteristics: location, neighbors, color, land/sea, SC or not SC, SC home or not; unit objects to have naval/army, move, nation ownership and so on.

I am a Software Developer of some sort, so I do know enough to make some simple suggestion, not like I want people to go to the moon.

It's not working for me. I did what Fasces said and activated the point and click, and I hit activate IA, but then it won't let me select a territory... Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))
31 May 13 UTC
Did the label of the "activate IA"-Button change to "deactive IA" and were the other Buttons enabled? If yes, you should be able to click on a territory on the map and the name should appear in a new white area labeled "Order-Line:". Perhaps you only clicked on a border between two territories?
If the buttons were enabled but the territory-selection still not works, please check, if you could copy the address of the image of the map? You shouldn't be able to copy an address after the "activate IA"-Button is hit.
This could help me to detect the problem as well as the browser you use. Perhaps your browser doesn't support the feature.
Lord Skyblade (1912 D)
31 May 13 UTC
It turned to deactivate IA, and I didn't click between two territories, I'll try it on google chrome and then if that doesn't work I'll send you a link once I'm on a desktop (on my iPod now)

The greying out of territories is a great idea - however there is some trouble with armies that are moving via convoy.
Oli (977 D Mod (P))
20 Jun 13 UTC
What trouble?
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))
20 Jun 13 UTC
Can specify "some trouble", please?
I changed the convoy order a bit. If you select an army and choose convoy, first adjacent sea territories with fleets should be highlighted and, after the first selected fleet, adjacent coasts as well.
kaner406 (2103 D Mod (B))
20 Jun 13 UTC
For instance in this gameID=14493

Murmansk should be able to order to Clyde here it is selected:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxIREuIvx26udTBUdW1jVmFteWc/edit?usp=sharing
This is the result of trying to order to Clyde:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxIREuIvx26uQUFXRWpFVFFad28/edit?usp=sharing

Now when I try the 'convoy' order with the same army it now asks me to select 'via' so I select Barents Sea and then Norwegian Sea and I get this error:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxIREuIvx26ubXlqT3o4WDdiSzQ/edit?usp=sharing
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))
20 Jun 13 UTC
Mhm, I can check the code in a few hours, but as Barents Sea is highlighted even after you selected it, the problem is probably caused by an handmade map, where the script doesn't check if every territory is selected right. If I am right, Barents Sea should be selected (displayed in the text line), when you click on Norwegian Sea.
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))
20 Jun 13 UTC
*separated right
Captainmeme (1400 D Mod (B))
20 Jun 13 UTC
One other thing - at the moment it is possible to enter orders when you have clicked 'ready', which allows you to enter the 'move' part but then it won't allow you to enter a territory and the orders line (at the bottom) says that the unit is undefined.
tobi1 (1997 D Mod (S))
20 Jun 13 UTC
@ kaner: Checked the map of Modern2 and it seems that Barents Sea and Norwegian Sea simply got the same color so the script interprets Norwegian Sea as Barents Sea when you click on it. I'm sure Oli will fix this soon.

@ Captainmeme: I've never tested what happens when you try to give orders after you finished your turn but I will change the script so it will check if the orders are finished or not. Thanks for the tip.

Hello all. I'm gone on a trip from June 30th- July 6th. If anyone could watch over my account I would be very grateful. I'm in 6 games, pretty solid position in each. I hate to ask for an extend in all these games, as I see it unfair to the players. The reason I'm in many games (I've known about this trip) is because I thought where I was going had internet. This is not correct!
