Conceding/Withdrawing from a game
Sorry if this is a well-flogged dead horse, but I've looked in the 'Help' section and can't seem to find an answer to this. Is it possible to concede a game - I don't mean voting for a concede result, but for a player to unilaterally withdraw from the game deliberately?

Is it possible to concede a game - I don't mean voting for a concede result, but for a player to unilaterally withdraw from the game deliberately, without running down their clock and using up any excused NMRs?

An example might be that you have one SC left and a unit on it, which cannot meaningfully do anything and which may be forced to retreat and several inputs still be required from that player before they are finally eliminated (eg. final SC taken in Spring, unit still exists in Autumn, may need to retreat, needs to be destroyed in Winter) understandably players in my games* have sometimes lost interest when they are obviously defeated yet still needed to enter some inputs for the game to proceed, it leads to the game taking a very long time to get over those hurdles and can result in an overall loss of interest in the game entirely.

I do not believe that this is possible.

Obviously there are marginal cases like the one you described where it would be useful (i.e. where there is literally nothing left to do but formalize a defeat) but I think a broader concern is that it would encourage quitting instead of playing out difficult or losing positions, which harms the quality of games.

Additionally... never say never! In the situation you described it's still possible survive by convincing someone to vacate your last sc (even if it is often tremendously unlikely).

I’ve survived as a one-center power before. It can happen. The key is to either wedge yourself into a border position between other powers so that taking you out would give one power an advantage, or to make yourself indispensable, or at least extremely helpful, to any draw. Sometimes goodwill will prevail over draw whittling. While you can’t always do this, and some losses aren’t going to be anything more than you described, you learn a lot in defeat, and it’s helpful to the integrity of the game, so these positions are worth playing out. This is worth passing on to other players who want to abandon these positions.

These are fair points, and I certainly share your position at least to a degree. I’ve always tried to remain engaged with games that I’ve lost until I am finally wiped out.

That said, seeing as the game does allow for a civil disorder result after X number of missed deadlines, it seems a bit odd to enforce the reaching of those deadlines onto the rest of the players. Certainly I’ve noticed the main outcome be an overall death of interest in the game, which is a shame. My friends are playing a classic game where Russia, Austria, Germany and France (me) are all defeated or very close to, but because Russia and Austria started being slow to respond to prompts to get their orders in, the game has dragged and now all the remaining players are kind of done with it despite the game looking to me (as a defeated player no less!) to be at a very interesting juncture indeed.

If you're being mullered in a game, just do what you can to survive - in all events keep fighting for the sake of the other players. Sometimes games do run slow because, gosh, people have RL, which includes all the normal and sometimes abnormal bumps in the road that happen.

When you sign up for a game of football, because your side is getting thrashed and it feels pointless you don't walk off because you know damn well there will be consequences. And their damned well should be, the clue is in 'unilaterally'... my feeling on this is that if you want the option of resigning from a game, play something like Chess, where your refusal to participate affects only you - don't join a 7 player game where your action will degrade the game for everyone else.

There must be no such option.

That's what RR is for. You weed out the quitters, among others. Set games with high RR requirements, and then people who bail when they lose quickly won't be eligible to join.

Why can't you view anything besides the public chat in archives?
Look I understand why you can't watch it during the game, since you could Pm players the details, but after a game has ended, I want to be able to view alliances, deals, and other things that you just couldn't see in the normal chat.

Manifest Destiny map issue
There seems to be a mistake in the Manifest Destiny map (fleets can move between one particular sea region and an inland region, which isn’t documented as being intentional and seems to just be a problem). Is the forum the right place to report these sorts of issues?

Question about replacing civil disorders
Why would people replace someone when they’re about to be eliminated, with games with a bet of 15 or such? Wouldn’t they just be losing their 15 points?

Why we got this?
Is this a mistake? Or what?
I did update to the RU-server and find out that stats are not working in a correct way. I check VDip site - the same.

1 SC, 0 units: a bug with the new system
Currently, I'm playing in a game where I currently have 1 SC and 0 units because my only unit was forced to disband. However, an interesting bug occurs, because the Save/Ready buttons still appear at the bottom of the screen, with no orders listed above them. Can someone fix this?

Winning target SCs don't work?
I just tried to create a Classic game with the winning number of SCs as 34 and the site just didn't want to do it. Is this a bug, or a system put in place?

Two winners in a game?
What happens if a game is set with winning conditions lower than 50% of all SCs and two players reach that goal in the same season? Is it a tie? Does the game continue until one has more?

Illogical Rating Assignments
Take a look at the following link:
https://vdiplomacy.com/hof.php?gameID=37006

Now, you can see the "brains" of the rating system. As you can see, the system deducts less from a player who CD'd than a player who kept playing and survived. Why? Shouldn't players be held accountable for their CDs?

Ready Button Retreat Bug
I'm Britain in this game:
https://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=37793

I have a retreat due. There is only one valid retreat location. I click the "Ready" button, but it's not saving the retreat. We're playing with rulebook press, so there is no "save" button currently.

I think the variant Caucasia would benefit from being played with a set end year and winner takes all. One could think of Caucasia as a tight C-diplo scoring variant.

Bone
My friend group and I have decided to shift all of our games from WebDiplomacy to VDiplomacy after the "Incident". Apologies for all of our bone games that will cloud up the search bar. However feel free to join any of them that you want, the password will always be the same, bone (unless we actually want it to be just us, in which case the password would be something else). Language may be offensive because some of my friends don't understand common decency.
