WWII Glitch
Hi,
A major glitch has occured with the WWII variant. I have paused all affected games until Oli can check it and hopefully fix it. If your game becomes affected, please report it in this thread, and a moderator will pause the game ASAP.

Imperial Diplomacy II, 20 SC Holland needs replacement
gameID=13115

Holland just NMR'd. Still has a great position and 20 SCs. A replacement would really help.

Please consider joining. You won't be behind. All we're doing this turn is placing our first build, and you still have nearly a day and a half to negotiate that.

NMR: serious
I thought that with this setting, players who are about to NMR, are sent CD and the gamephase gets extended...that did not happen in one of my games though...why?

New Game Concept
This might have been tried before but here it is. More below

So the idea here is for this to be a "majority rules" game, where, to make your moves, a vote is taken by the other players and the simple majority wins. The game would be full press (though I despise press games lol) and in the day of phases, the vote is taken.

I would really like to see if this idea is a feasible and fun sort of game, but I find some holes in it:

When people get out or gain more SC's, how are their votes allocated?

One solution I thought of was to make each defeated player's vote a vote itself. So in essence, two+ votes would be taken as the game goes on.

The easiest variant to play this would probably be 2020, since it would start with a odd number for voting since the player cannot participate in their own votes.

What do you guys think about this?
Do each player first proposes a set of moves to be voted on?

well, that in essence would be one of the problems, but it's one I've been thinking about for a while. There are some options to be consider:

1. The player recommends a set of moves and everyone votes on them. The problem I see here is this could go on for days and never reach a majority.

2. Each potential territory could be voted upon. Basically go majority rules and we thin it out until only one remains.

3. Each player puts up a potential territory and we go for territories with most votes (has to be at least more than one vote I would think) and we eliminate options based on that. Then they would vote on the options again until only one remains.

I think these ideas are a little vague, but if someone has ideas that would be great.

Also, I think I would not actually play this game, but serve as the neutral party to accept votes and then publish results.
if it is reaching the majority that seems to cause problems, how about if we lower the threshold to a pure voting system? A player proposes a few movesets and then the one with the most votes shall prevail.

There is a variant similar to this that I've read about somewhere. It works something like this:

Everyone enters normal orders for their units. However, everyone may also enter 1 or 2 (forget which one) orders for OTHER peoples units.

For example:

England orders London - EC. France orders Brest - EC. However, France also orders London - Yorkshire. In this case, France's order overrules Englands order, and France gains EC while London moves to Yorkshire.

Basically, majority rules on these "over-riding" orders. So if 2 people order London - Yorkshire, and one orders London - Wales, London - Yorkshire is what happens. HOWEVER, if 1 person orders London - Wales, and 1 orders London - Yorkshire, they cancel, and the ORIGINAL order given by England is what is processed.

Makes for some interesting diplomacy, as these "over-ruling" orders are NOT published, only the final order is (I believe). That opens the door to people stabbing and claiming they got "over-ruled", leading to some VERY interesting negotiations.
What Drano suggested sounds workable for me, I would like to give it a try.

There is another variant with a similar idea, but it's "minor power" units that you're moving, not another player's. Ambition & Empire: http://www.diplom.org/Zine/F2008M/AnE/AErules.htm

Might give you an idea for how to handle the voting as powers grow and decline.

Ah thats the one i was thinking of! Had a few detaiks wrong. Still a great idea.
I prefer Drano's one though, it sounds simpler and may serve as a better alternative to kick things off.

I like the concept but perhaps we test it with 5 people first on Ancient Med or another map.

But count me in, I guess. Can we have 2 days/phase to ensure everyone gets their votes ijn?
A smaller-scale playtest on Ancient Med sounds fair to me. How about the rest of you?

Choice of Country
Being new to vDiplomacy, I'm curious to see what people choose for their country when the option in a game is given. For example, which nation would you choose for World War IV? Feel free to give preferences for other variants.

Anon WWIV games. Rare?
I have not seen many anonymous (specifically WWIV) games, does noone like these types of games? what is the general consensus? I feel as if they are a more fair, unbiased game. (because I believe people hold grudges, trust certain players more, recognize player tags and play according to their names, not their diplomacy, etc. )

New Team Game
Who's interested in a two player team game? The map will depend on the number of people I can get to sign up. The phase length will probably be 2 days, and the bet 10 D or lower, also depending on how many people there are. Interested parties post below along with your partner.
