Well, it could just be rank that determines giant or slayer then purely go "pick your nation" where first in gets whatever nation they want.

I say make it random allocation. If there needs to be a difference between slayers and giants, perhaps add a rule that giants can't get treaties with eachother?
If I'm a giant though, the giants aren't exactly giants, so..

I think I'm pretty good, but this is about ranking and my ranking can hardly be good.

Saying giants can't have a treaty with each other makes it one *giant* slayer against a bunch of "giants" who aren't allowed to work together. That guarantees they will be eliminated and makes be a giant a reason to back out before the game begins.

I hesitate to post this because I do not like to douse enthusiasm for a game that people are trying too get started, but since this is an untried concept, rather than a proven variant with a track record of playability, I would like to suggest that almost all games played at VDip now are in fact unofficial "giantslayer" games. I have lost track of how many times I've been told that I was attacked because of my points./ranking/reuptation, or how many times I my attempts at Diplomacy were simply dismissed because I was perceived as a giant. As flattering as that may sound, the game of Diplomacy is simply unplayable when this occurs. There are no players in the world that can take on the entire board, and certainly not on the map that you are proposing. The Imperial map has a very delicate balance to it, which is designed to induce intimate diplomacy among all 13 nations. It won't work under the ideas you're suggesting here of gang-banging the "giants". It's bad enough when this behavior happens game after game across the community, but what makes you think that anyone would willingly accept game where this behavior is not only openly endorsed, but a precept of the game concept? It seems to me that if you want to explore a giant killer game, that you should work on tailoring a map design that would at least make it something of a challenge to both the giant and the killers.

All I suggest is a game where the "weakest" players choose nations first. If that's the idea Jack wants to try. Just for fun.

Yes danshot. i mean having giants with countries like britain france and holland, weaker diplomacy players may just get gangbanged themselves. the weaker players shld get to choose their countries to make it seem more even.

So pick your ranking system and do the invites form lowest to highest waiting for each invite to join before sending the next.

I caught Dengue fever when I was 23, living in northern Thailand. It hit me when I was headed over to Laos to get some working visas organised. It wasn't very nice. Take it easy, you will feel weak for quite a while after the main infection has passed.
