Tour of VDip: Extension
A while ago, I started the Tour of VDip! With the intention to play every game on the site. We are currently on round three. After evaluating my summer schedule, I have notices that I have exactly fifty free days (excluding seven for band camp, twelve for a missions trip, and ten for vacation days). Anyway, from this conclusion...Actually, hold on, I have a lot to say...

I never found that problem but then again, it was because of the earlier end game situation. If I had run into this problem I would likely have addressed it long ago. If you would like I can revisit it and try a redraw or two trying not to disrupt the balance of things. What areas in particular seem to be getting clogged like this?

one thing that could help slightly, bring the Arctic into play year round. Global warming, it's many years in the future ...why not?

OK, forgive me for being somewhat new here, This has gone on long enough and now that I know you have a variant section, I will address the ideas there once I work on some possible (easy) solutions, nothing that should make for any huge changes, I already have several ideas that may improve things further???
Look for it there shortly...

I loved the icbreaker rule where you could move into the polar regions in the spring (north) and fall (south) but ,could not stay there and had to move out or be destroyed. Even that little wrinkle opens the game up a great deal opens up the

kaner406 - I love the map you have worked on! Do you think it would work without the new rules (OZ and SL)? I am not necessarily against them but the less rules the better.
Tomahaha (1170 D)
14 Aug 13 UTC
Is there no way to allow as many fleets as possible in one area? No bounces possible INTO the area? That space can then hold multiple fleets and make for extra supports into an adjacent blocked sea zone. That was the idea we had used on a different game that Ruffhaus mentioned. I am not familiar with judge programs but it SEEMS do-able?
Tomahaha (1170 D)
14 Aug 13 UTC
oh, and I did a revised map but can not post in the variant webpage, not a LOT of changes but a few extra spaces and a few redraws to make blockages a bit less likely?

If you are talking about the dev. forum then you need to introduce yourself first:

@bluecthulhu - There would be no point releasing the map without the OZ's & SL's. It would create too many sea territories and make the game virtually unplayable.

@Tomahaha - after registering you need to post in the introduction thread, so you can be manually entered as a real user. This is because we've had problems with spambots.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion there. I don't understand why a fascinating discussion about the possibilities of a variant on a variant server is frowned upon. The site referred to seems to be a sparsely populated board dedicated to developers. Perhaps a general discussion here would encourage and spark an interest in developing variants that would be a benefit to that site.

Not to push other sites, but we ARE one happy family?
I am also on Redscape and we used to have a VERY active thread discussing nothing but variants, that's how this game as well as my other designs came about. That thread is now rarely used there, maybe VDip can start a new discussion thread as well? You guys seem to have taken the hand-off and are now embracing such variants?

FYI, I had posted those changes and see the current map has a whole bunch of changes all over the place. You guys are using a very OLD version, the one posted has been played multiple times yet here you have the older version. And it is STILL credited to someone who did not design the game, I really would like someone to fix that, I asked several times before and still, no change!

I guess given that it would be difficult to program the Arctic Rule. whether or not you would be ok with this region being enter-able all year round - until the rule can be programed.
Tomahaha (1170 D)
21 Aug 13 UTC
I would simply make it passable all year if you think it could help, it is the future and global warming has had its effect!?
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)
21 Aug 13 UTC
Pffft, global warming.... How about the variant is set in the 21st century and military technology has allowed for improved thermal uniforms, vehicular mobility, and logistical capability?
ScubaSteve (1234 D)

Passable all year would be fun. Would certainly open up the play in the north? Why not have the antarctic playable as a land mass as well? Maybe have more than one space there similar to the 19 player world map? Maybe have a couple spaces in the north, as well? Maybe put a couple of different countries in each spot as "colonies" to mix things up a bit? Just a thought!
Tomahaha (1170 D)
21 Aug 13 UTC
My feeling is adding anything to Antarctica would be a mistake. The Arctic can work since it's one sea zone but a landmass at the bottom ...bad idea.
I had not noticed how old a map you had been using, that one goes waaaay back. There are all sorts of changes in the seas and on the land all over the place. The newest rev (less my red lines) was playing quite well and corrected quite a few earlier problems that you guys have been playing with all along. Maybe a new map is all that is needed, however, someone would have to code it ad all that stuff that is way over my head!
ScubaSteve (1234 D)
22 Aug 13 UTC
I've always thought that the way that world diplomacy IX deals with antarctica is fun. It might be interesting to take the stronger countries and move one of their SCs to Antarctica to create a fight there. That would create a situation, Imperial Diplomacy II style, where there was more diplomacy to be had than merely with the countries that you have the fortune (or misfortune) to be next to. Just my thoughts. I love the maps and the different styles of play that they create. If I had my way, every game I played would be on a different map.
bluecthulhu (1815 D)
22 Aug 13 UTC
I respectfully disagree. Messing with Antarctica would totally change Argentina's, S.Africa's and Australia's game. I prefer that small changes be made to a map that is already been "balanced" to some degree, just like Tomahaha has done...

ScubaSteve - I think you may find that engaging in diplomacy on the WW4 map with nonadjacent neighbors is a really, really, good idea...

Just checking: drawing and left players
Hi all. In a game where 2 players have left and the remaining 3 players want to draw. Just checking that the left players (still on the board) don't get a share of the pot if the 3 of us draw. Or do we have to wait until we've taken all their SCs?

Modern Diplomacy advise needed
I'm playing as Russia and was just betrayed by Ukraine. My forces are split between Scandinavia and Asia Minor/Middle East. Is my best move to move my forces in the Middle East back up to try to defend my center (which has one tank) or keep moving south into the Middle East against a weakened Turkey? I have 6 units in the area vs. 9 Ukraine, 5 Turkey and 4-5 potentially hostile Italian units.
