Bug report for Layered Map
So I'm trying to convoy an army from map 2 to map 1. I have fleets in the bordering sea territory in maps 1 and 2, and a fleet in the destination bordering in map 2. It SHOULD work, but when I try to enter it the convoy orders all disappear and it gives me an error.

Competitive Dip Round 2
So the first "Competitive Dip" game has finished, with Ruffhaus, Mapu, and myself ending in a 3 way draw. So I'm back, calling for Round 2! Who wants in? Personally, I'm hoping to try out Rinascimento as a "competitive" game just to see how it plays out!

Ankara Crescent 100% VCs
Usually, if you put a game on 100% Victory Conditions, it becomes rather boring - nobody ever fights for a solo, as it is almost always impossible, so everyone aims for a draw from the start.

Need 4 more players for Sengoku map
as the thread title says, im searching for four more players to fill my "Japan United" game on the Sengoku map. Since creating a game alone does not seem to yield the required number of enthusiastic participants, ill try it via the forum. Only requirement is, that those people stay in game, even if shit starts to get serious for them ^^

Gunboat game: obvious coordination outside the board
wondering how to react on a supported move in a gunboat that is either extremely unlikely to be guessed out of the blue by the supporter, or coordinated off-board, which should not happen in gunboats.
if my opponents coordinate off-board, this game is totally ruined for me and i can give it up right away, as i can't stand a chance against them if they are that well coordinated.

Sorry Folks
I am embarrassed to state that in the time since I lost my Internet Connection at home last Wednesday or Thursday, I have so far missed 22 turns, increasing my total from 5 and reducing my reliability rating to 90%. I apologise for this and hope to get my line fixed tomorrow.

Known World
Hi all!

Could someone explain to me more clearly how neutral standing armies are rebuilt in Known World 901? I always thought that if you did not have an army in a territory, the neutral standing army got rebuilt, even if you owned that territory. However, I am in a game where it seems a person owned a territory, left it unoccupied for the fall, but the standing neutral army was not rebuilt. It was not formerly anyone's home center.

Is the WWII map unbalanced?
I was pondering the statistics when I realised, that France soloed only once, while the Soviet managed it 10 times. Is this because the map is unbalanced, or because the Soviet players are that good?

Tour of VDip: Extension
A while ago, I started the Tour of VDip! With the intention to play every game on the site. We are currently on round three. After evaluating my summer schedule, I have notices that I have exactly fifty free days (excluding seven for band camp, twelve for a missions trip, and ten for vacation days). Anyway, from this conclusion...Actually, hold on, I have a lot to say...

Not sure what you are looking at as far as discussion? For any Diplomacy game (Standard or variant) the map is designed to promote balance between players. The link discusses such spaces as either Neutral zones or hot spots, these are areas that are usually designed into a game (but could develop after expansion as well) that are tricky. If allied with someone, you would want to agree to demilitarize the space. If I agree to never move in and you agree to the same, then we can not worry about incursions into this territory (one that is usually very vulnerable to both parties) but as is the game, you can seldom really trust anyone and this peace is always on-edge and once entered it becomes a "Hot Spot". When playing the game you strive to keep these hot spots to a minimum, all on one front if at all possible, in effect allowing you to be all the more powerful.

sorry to clarify; I'm writing the article, just looking for advice and things that I should mention in it

Maybe something along the lines I mentioned where a power can increase his relative power on one front if he can leave another front unguarded, but the problem is always there of WHEN (not IF) a stab is about to happen on that undefended border?
You may even make mention of how such zones are designed in from the get-go and how some will develop in odd ways depending on how powers expand?

perhaps you could include some tactics on reducing "hot zones" and the necessity of dmz's when creating and maintaining successful alliances after the initial phases have occurred. Your article is applicable mostly in the early phase of the game but the dynamic changes drastically if you are to find and keep a successful alliance. For instance, using geographical features such as mountains, lakes, and expansive territories which are easily defensible allow for more peaceful and easily maintained borders. The more you can eliminate the "trust" factor in finding a stalemate border, the better it is for an alliance. "hot spots" should be filled and defended, and dmz's should be used at a minimum, it's all about finding a border where both parties are secure because an invasion is impossible from either player.

"DMZs make alliances much more probable, as they allow either player to forsee a stab occuring."

you don't want to rely on a dmz because as you said, a simple move into the territory signals a stab. How does this improve the quality of the border? It rewards first-strike activity and therefore is not a good choice for a border arrangment. The best strategy is to arrange security and long-term prosperity by identifying the "lowest-cost" total security for both parties, which includes a probable stalemate for the lowest invested troops so each partner has the bulk (but not all) of his resources to expend in other directions. For this reason, dmz's can be useful in the early stages to establish a base level of trust and to reveal players intentions and/or willingness to cooperate, but as the game progresses they should definitely be avoided by the use of diplomacy, negotiation, and logistical analysis from both parties.
