NMR policy
How does it work? I'd like to stop the game for any NMR and then seek for a replacement for maybe as long as a week but I don't understand the instructions.

Why doesn't vDiplomacy have the 1900 variant?
It seems that the 1900 variant is the most balanced game for Diplomacy but its only available on PlayDiplomacy. How come no one made a version here?

PBEM New World Order (NWO) at Redscape
Sendric is hosting a PBEM game of NWO at Redscape. If you've never played NWO, it is flat out wild with 40+ players. As an unbalanced game it can fit with different playing styles. Get in touch with Sendric or post at Redscape for signup.

I can guarantee it's a wild ride, no doubt about that!

We're about a third of way through sign-ups, so plenty of space left. I encourage you all to check it out.

This deserves another bump! You'll be amazed every turn if you're anything like me :-)

Perhaps a bit of explanation would help. This variant starts with around 40-42 nations, with some wiggle room to go up or down. There are five categories of nations (rated A-E), which is based on their starting strength as not all nations are created equal. These ratings are also used in an end-game coalition vote to determine who the winners are.

In addition to the normal armies and fleets, this variant also features additional units, such as Wings. Wings can be used to bombard cities and airlift armies over otherwise impassable terrain. Also, some nations have the ability to create nukes. This ability can be transferred to other nations, usually in exchange for services or banked credits. Nukes, of course, can be used to utterly destroy cities and units.

In general, the game is skewed towards the larger nations. However, in the last run not a single large nation came away with a victory, so its anyone's game. You can follow the link above, or if you are looking for more information, you can visit my site where I will be updating the game as we go along:

http://www.sendric.com/diplomacy/

I encourage you all to at least check it out.

I received a couple of questions, so for those wondering, this game doesn't cost anything. All I need from anyone signing up to play is an email address. The other question is in regards to turn length. Spring/Fall seasons are one week, with orders due on Tuesdays. Retreats and adjustments are due 24-48 hours that, depending on the results of the season. The basic schedule has been added to the rules.

This variant hosted by Sendric consists of several new unit types, including nukes and wings, which are extremely fun, and now is experimenting with terrorist unit rules. If you are interested in a wild ride, and a fun game without worrying about RR, points, player ratings, or stalemates, New Word Order is one to try out. It's too complex to write into the webdip code at this point, but it's a game where you can still have a great deal of fun playing even when winning looks impossible.

Thanks Ruffhaus! Interest is increasing. I am targeting the end of January to get things rolling. That leaves about 4 weeks to sign-up. Check it out, sign up, and tell your friends.

and while complex for webdip code and all those extra units and rules, it really isn't very difficult a learning curve. You will catch on almost immediately!
steephie22 (933 D)
17 Dec 14 UTC
Yeah the good old phrase "easy to learn, impossible to master" is true for NWO too.
Tomahaha (1170 D)

further, if you are a bit frightened by these seemingly odd rules, they are very easy to understand, and are intuitive. There are so many others to ask questions of and the more baffling of the rules (and again, none are too intense crazy) all others are in the same boat with these newest of rules changes... the basic rules are pretty darned easy to figure out.
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)
17 Dec 14 UTC
Yes, that's an important clarification on the complexity of the rules. The process of writing the webdip coding is what is complex and challenging at the point (mainly because no one has mastered the process of adding new unit types), and the reason why it must be played as an email based special rules game with a human GM. The actual variant rules are not complex, and the game is a lot of fun for everyone.
Im interested

Thanks, GiantSlayer. I have PM'd you to follow up. We are getting a lot of new faces for this run of NWO, which I think will make the game even more fun. I'm very much looking forward to getting this thing going. :)

Ambassador and Kaner, I do not see you chaps signed up for this game. I know that you guys had toyed with the idea of creating a nuclear variant here. If this is still on your VDip bucket list, then I recommend playing or at a minimum getting on the email list as a game observer to watch the game play out. While the present coding constraints do not allow for the additional unit types (nukes, wings, etc.) the newly created option to create moderated games could open some doors to this. In any case it's a wild ride, and both of you would enjoy it.

Fairly busy in RL, I don't think I will be able to commit to the time required to play a PBEM game it this point. Best of luck though, it looks like it will be a lot of fun. I would like to get updates as the game progresses - in a strictly observer status though.
Sendric (2060 D)

I can post regular updates here in addition as the game progresses. Not a problem. Still looking to fill a few more spots if anyone is interested.

Alternatively, kaner would be even more up to date if you added him as a BCC for all updates of the game mailed.

I recall the last GM stopped updating the websites at some point.

Similar boat to kaner, don't have the time at the moment. Sorry...

There are lots of 1 SC powers though. I guess an interesting question would be whether it's preferred to play with one less nation or to play with a nation with much less time commitment, perhaps even missing a phase every now and then..

Question regarding variant
In the variant Rat Wars, the rules state that some SC squares cannot be occupied by Arrow Rat. However, does that just mean when an arrow rat moves there it doesn't become that person's SC, or an arrow rat cannot move into that square entirely? Like, can you move an arrow rat on such a square just to prevent others from taking the SC?
