Noob question
When are new units created? I've conquered 4 or 5 supply centres but still only have 3 units. The friend I'm playing against has 6. In depth explanation would be awesome. Thanks

Allowing players to select their starting power?
I was asked to join a game and politely declined but did give the game a look-see. I was somewhat shocked to see it was not yet full but those already joined KNEW their power assignment!

Via land vs. Via convoy
The game will sometimes give the option of going somewhere by land or through a convoy. My question is, why would you ever want to go by convoy in these cases?

New WWIV font colours suck dog balls
I greatly appreciate the new WWIV map, but seriously some of those font colours for players are horrendous. While it may not be a perfect match with their colour on the board, its something that needs majorly fixing.

WWIV v6.2 UN Rule
It mentions in the new WWIV description that you can play version of the game with a UN rule, what is that rule? I think I've heard Tomahaha and someone else mention it, but I've never been clear on what it meant.

Extending the advanced options for game creation?
Hi,
what do you think about making some variant-specific features like BuildAnywhere, Pick your Countries or Fog of War a general option for every game?

Capture Your Capital
I once saw someone refer to a modern map game whereby everyone was given a target on the other side of the map that they had to get to and hold. Does anyone know how this was set up (e.g. which did each country have to aim for?) and would anyone be interested in trying to set a game of it up?

Could you please re-send me some of those maps - I have a bit of time on my hands at the moment, and provided I could pick your brains as to how I am going with it...

Who would the belligerents be?
White army
Bolsheviks
Trotskyites

No Trotskyites.....Trotsky was the the commander in chief of the Bolsheviks. Reds, Whites and Blacks if memory serves....plus Allies?

Supporting the Whites, the Czecho-slovaks. And at their retreat to the East, Americans arrive Later, like Prussia at Waterloo.
Or earlier, Germany and their sealed train ... Muy complicado

I have this old concept for RCW lying around, perhaps it could give you some ideas. I thought about a roughly 21 player map, each starting with 1-2 SCs and representing a commander participating in the RCW, so there would be several Red ones, White ones, 2 Czechoslovaks, Polish, Baltic Germans, the Allies expedition of Ironside, peasant anarchists of Makhno etc. I guess you could lump some of them up to have bigger blocks and variant for less players or you could set some sort of semi-permanent alliances to give it a twist on typical Diplomacy. The positions are roughly Fall 1918 till early 1919. Units would be armies and armored trains that act as ships and can only run on Transsiberian railway "sea provinces" and dock in SCs along the way, which would be a quicker route connecting the East and West theatres than going with just armies. No new rules to keep it simple. Just an idea I never had time to finish with my own gaming projects in the pipes :)

sorry, my mistake.

looks like a good start there. Would the armoured trains be able to convoy along railway routes?
caliburdeath (1013 D)
14 Nov 13 UTC
The 'permanent alliances' bit could be based off of the privateers in Pirate diplomacy.
myLAAN (1109 D)
14 Nov 13 UTC
Without the convoy ability, they would be too weak I think.
kaner406 (2103 D Mod (B))
14 Nov 13 UTC
I'm not sure about permanent alliances, reading a little more about the civil war it seems like there was significant competition and distrust between the different contingents involved.
myLAAN (1109 D)
14 Nov 13 UTC
Yeah, that was why I tried to split the beligerents into the smallest units practical. But of course making bigger blocks would make the variant easier to balance. Although the more player mayhem would be more fun :)

A Capitalist Plan for a Capitalist Country: Sbyvonomics
I for one am sick and tired of “moderate” and “compassionate conservative” politicians. None of these individuals are willing to make the tough choices necessary for getting America out of the hole. However, I’d like to make a few suggestions in order to stir the pot a bit. Here are five steps the federal government can take to fix the economic situation in the United States right now:
