So, I was playing D&D, and had to pull out my old d20...and that got me thinking...
Then I pulled out Civ4 Beyond the Sword and remembered how there were all kinds of Random Events that occurred that affected gameplay and a nation's ability to function as a properly as possible...and that got me thinking...
Then I pulled up Diplomacy and decided it would be interesting to add some form of Random Events to a Diplomacy game. Each event would affect Diplomacy, and may even prevent units from being built. And I would really like to try that...Of course, my best idea so far involves including the game as a Treaties game which would require formal declarations of war and such other things...
RULES
Each power may conduct Diplomacy just as though it were any other game with the following exceptions:
1-a. Any power may not enter another power's lands without globally expressed permission given to them by the latter power or without declaring war first. This includes non-Supply Center territories and designated Demilitarized areas.
1-b. Any two powers may form an alliance so that if one of those two powers is declared war upon, the other must declare war on the original declarer of war. This does not force the second power to act upon this declaration of war, it is merely a formal gesture. An alliance is broken any time the allied nations go to war with each other, or in the instance that a Random Event breaks their alliance.
1-c. Any power may not form an alliance with more than three other powers, and no power may declare war more than once in a year unless they are forced to by a Random Event.
2. Each nation potentially has 20 Random Events that may happen to them. At the end of each year, a select player (me) will roll an Icosahedron to determine what event in particular may occur to them. In the event that two Random Events conflict with each other (ex. one causes France to go to war with Germany, and another causes all wars to temporarily end), then nothing will happen.
3. Because it will become very easy for powers to cheat, precautions will be made in order to ensure that powers do not do so without repercussions. In the event that a player cheats, it will be requested of a mod to undo a turn and allow the player to redo their orders so that they are unable to cheat. If a mod is unable to intervene, or if the player continues to cheat, then all powers will be forced into permanent war against the cheating player until that player has made amends from whatever he did to cheat.
The more players we can get, the better. I would like to do a larger map, but if people want to do something closer to classic just to see how things go there, that would be fine as well. There should be a high SC victory to encourage alliances and Draws. Once a map is selected, then I will create a list of events particular to each nation. The list will be made before the game begins so that everyone can review and know the possibilities when conducting Diplomacy.
I think this will be very fun...if people read the rules.
