As an information, me & Hirnsaege know each other from the university. We live in different cities so we don't really meet in RL anymore, but we still inform each other about interesting games here and play in the same often.

i confirm what didigoose said – we like the game, not the team, so even if we have a personal connection (and i initially invited didigoose to vdiplomacy and this tournament) we will coordinate and communicate the same way as with anybody else taking part!

@all. If common sense wasn't enough, then 1st paragraph of Rule #8 should be. You can't say anything to anyone, therefore you can't reveal your identity.

It's a thing we'd better do now, because later the silence will be on - just 1 second after I create the 1st Round's games.

I still don't exactly get how the scoring works but I am ok going with mapu's strategy of just playing whatever games I am told to play and letting everything else kind of work itself out.

Mapu could be right saying "...and do your best."
I'd just add "until the end" to what he said, because surviving - even with 0 SCs - will earn you for sure more than 1 SP, which will be added to your current Round's score and which could be crucial for moving to the next Round if your total score is low.
Or should I say next 'Rounds', as you will carry over a fraction of that Point to the next Round, a fraction of that fraction to the Round after the next...and so on until the Final.

So: do your best, until the end of each game.

That said, if you tell me what you don't get, I'll try to explain.

First of all, welcome everybody.
After having taken part in many Tournaments, and having seen any sort of issues causing unpleasant discussions among players and huge delays or even stopping the competition, I decided for a rulebook in which most common issues were pre-resolved. The idea is that the TD should make as less discretional decisions as possible. But the hope is that there won't be any problem needing solutions, whether predetermined or improvised they be.
Also, it's been a long time I had in mind this Tournament formula (rules from 3 to 7) and unfortunately it's much more simple to play than to explain.
So what went out is the wall of text you've all read already and which made me afraid that nobody would have joined this Tour, being scared by such a long read.
Well, we're here. :) I'm very happy I found 20 brave players who like gunboats and who are willing to try this first Benchmark GB Tournament. Once again, welcome!

I must say I've been helped. Some people did it and this work couldn't be without them. But this is not the right time for thanks yet, I'll get back on this later.

I've just checked your total points. Tomorrow I'll announce the 2 groups for the 1st Round, then I'll make some friendly reminders, finally I'll send each one his own games & PWs.

Some friendly reminders:

1- This is a *Gunboat* Tournament! :)
As you receive your invites you must be silent: what this means is explained in Rule #8.
For those who don't know me: I hate giving penalties, but I hate even more that silence gets broken - no matter how - while the Round is ongoing. So please don't get me to do things I hate, because I'd get an inflexible bastard.

2- Before you join, please check your blocking list and make sure you aren't blocking anyone in your Group (Rule #9).

3- You have 48 hours to join your games, after that you'll be replaced (Rule #10). But I trust it will take much less than that.

Yes D4, you should PM me in case.
You can use this thread and global chats *only* in the 3 days between two consecutive Rounds. That's why the next Round won't start immediately: so everyone will have time enough for any kind of comments. Also, that's why the rule is called:
8 - Silence and "3-days".

As a mere example, if you post just an "Hello!" whether in this thread or in a global chat while a Round is ongoing, you'll get a penalty.
A Round starts as I send the PMs with gameID & password and finishes when *all* the games in it are finished.
Into practice it's very simple because I'll post reminders here (Silence ON / Silence OFF), so you can't miss it.
