Bounce question
I really should know this, but thought I'd double check.

Let's say I have an SC that I want to build in. I move a unit out.I then send 2 units to both "attack" that SC. Now let's say one of my opponents attack the SC too, but support it. Now a straight 2 vs 2 results in a bounce, but what about a 2 vs 1 vs 1?

Support Rules and Dislodgings
I'm guessing you guys play by strange rules. I've never seen this not happen outside of here: One, if a force gets dislodged, the move cuts supports/convoys. Two, to cut a support/convoy, it has to get moved towards. The supporting or convoying unit doesn't have to actually get dislodged.

Is Diplomacy Ultimately About Luck
Years ago when I first bought the board game for a group of friends, some of them didn't want to play because they saw the game was all about luck. That idea still rings in my mind from time to time.

Is Norway Undervalued in 1066?
Something I notice when playing 1066 (v2) is that England and Normandy always do battle, and Norway usually has a lot of leeway to mop things up. I guess the larger size of the North Sea spaces give the illusion that Norway is farther away, but in reality, it's just two spaces away just like Normandy.

Rational Moves Test
You guys could really use some sort of test to license people to play games in. It's annoying when irrational players ruin the game for rational players by allowing third players to win after overrunning them.

Does Drawing in WTA Backfire?
I was wondering if the logic behind WTA draws isn't necessarily reliable. Draws allow people to make alliances, and instead of drawing against the solo winner, they simply draw among themselves instead of pursuing a solo victory. Is there a way to disable drawing so this doesn't happen?

It has been suggested on the Bourse thread (threadID=28446) that we 'bourse' the Winners' round...

my question is would players have a problem with this?
Captainmeme (1400 D Mod (B))

I'm fine with it (then again, I am the one who suggested it :D)
DoubleCapitals (736 D)

drano019 (2710 D Mod)
14 Jul 12 UTC
I object. I disapprove of having 7 to 10 extra people analyzing and COMMENTATING on a tournament game in a public forum. It will, without a shadow of a doubt, affect peoples play.
Wolfman (1230 D)
14 Jul 12 UTC
Not entirely sure what Bourse the Winners' round actually means. I am gathering it means posted in that thread. I kind of agree with drano019 as other commenting could effect others play. However, more important is if someone is insulted by their actions. Someone not playing starts a conversation about it. Then the one that is playing get offended and comments back. Then there goes the Anonymity. That kind of defeats the purpose if I am understanding what is meant by the question of the Bourse thread. However, I am not familiar with the word Bourse so I might be confused somewhat.
kaner406 (2061 D Mod (B))
14 Jul 12 UTC
@drano - if the bourse was to conducted under anonymous rules, that is no investor can communicate to another investor, surely that would mitigate the problem of the bourse effecting the game in progress (I would assume that under this circumstance that there would be no posting in-game about what a nations stock is worth)

@Wolfman - Bourse is a kind of market system that 'bets' on countries value, it rises and falls depending upon how that country happens to perform in the game.
kaner406 (2061 D Mod (B))
14 Jul 12 UTC
*Under anonymous Bourse; each investor would have a pseudonym (known only to the GM), and the market results would not be published in-game, only in the thread that publishes what the investors earn/loose.

Personally I would love to have players speculating on a game that I was in, and on top of that observing my maneuvers and my potential to survive/win/draw against other players. I don't know about you but I like the idea that other players are observing intensely what is occurring in the game.

The trick is to establish a system that would allow for such intense observation, that does not affect the game in progress. We have seen from the first trial run that players who had foreknowledge that the game is being 'boursed' might attempt to influence the market.
drano019 (2710 D Mod)
14 Jul 12 UTC
As long as there is absolutely no discussion of the game on the forum and it remains in email, i have no issue with it. It just needs to stay separate from the game which means investors need to be careful about accidentially commenting on the bourse to people who they are friends with on the site.
kaner406 (2061 D Mod (B))
14 Jul 12 UTC
So how can we avoid this? In particular how can we avoid either influencing each other in the system of vDip that we have at the moment?/?/?
drano019 (2710 D Mod)
14 Jul 12 UTC
The only way is to keep all discussion of the bourse off the forum. Any discussion at all has the ability to impact the game, hence the 'no talking about ongoing games' forum etiquette rule.
kaner406 (2061 D Mod (B))
14 Jul 12 UTC
Perhaps a PM-type system, where investors are only informed of their stocks/holding who sold what via PM?
kaner406 (2061 D Mod (B))
14 Jul 12 UTC
I have to say that to do so will be quite difficult for the person who is running Bourse. From personal experience, the PM system allowed here is inadequate. E-mail would solve many problems in this regard as the GM can then easily send the information to each investor quickly without having to re-type each individual players stats in every PM.
drano019 (2710 D Mod)
14 Jul 12 UTC
I think email is the best option. It not only simplifies things for the gm, but it also completely separates the bourse from vdip, which would otherwose be a problem.
Leif_Syverson (1626 D Mod)
14 Jul 12 UTC
I'm not a big fan of boursing a tournament game, but like drano, I'd consent to having it boursed if there were guarantees that there would be no effect on game play in the tournament (and penalties for players/investors who do try to influence the game because it is being boursed).

Since I haven't been following the bourse thread, I'm not sure how players with prior knowledge used that knowledge to influence the game, but how can we ensure that doesn't happen here?
fasces349 (1007 D)
14 Jul 12 UTC
I would still disagree with having the game boursed.

For example, me and Italy only did a key lepanto because we wanted to see how the markets would react to it.

Even if the currencies are only announced in the thread, players will still take interest, and may make moves accordingly
amisond (1280 D)
14 Jul 12 UTC
What if the currencies where only announced via pm. Then the players would have no idea what effect they are having.
Captainmeme (1400 D Mod (B))
14 Jul 12 UTC
How about you do the Bourse thing off the VDip forum, in a Google+ group or something (not sure how G+ groups work, but I've heard that they're quite good). Alternatives are a Facebook group or on the WebDip forum (so that the players could view the thread if they want to and avoid it if they don't).
Tbh, I'm with Kaner - I would like to see how markets react to my desicions. Still, I understand that other people might not.
